PCP or lease

Post by Magpie-01 »

Hi I would appreciate your thoughts on the option of pcp vs lease or trading in my motor and stumping up the extra £7 grand on a polo gti plus cheers.

In reality, there’s not much difference between the two.
I’ve done numerous examples of both, people will tell you Lease doesn’t give you the option of owning the car at the end.
Nonsense, lease companies will happily sell you the car.
PCP lets you know what the buying price will be in advance though, lease means you won’t know until you ask.
PCP you pay the roadtax, lease they pay.
So if the figures are equal, you’d save £140 a year or more with lease.

The biggest pain with leading is getting the next one ready and available to coincide with finishing the term you currently have. Won't be a bother for some cars built quickly after ordering e.g. BMW. For something like a Polo GTI though, it might be hard to gauge when to be ordering the next one - do you order 6/9/12 months before the end of your current lease? Not such a concern for your first one, but is for subsequent ones. I find a lot of leases out there not too competitive, so when you see a good deal, you jump at it - more difficult to string 2 good deals together in a row.

If lease is cheaper than PCP for the car you want then go for it.
