GTI jerky brakes at low speed

Post by barrywi »

I have had my GTI plus since August 2018 but recently have noticed the brakes are over sensitive at low speed. I keep annoying the missus by thrusting her head towards the windscreen ( not intentional!!😀) The car has only done around 6000 miles and mostly local.
Any ideas what it could be ? I have tried stopping the car hard to sort of get rid of any gunge around the pads but it does not help . The discs still look nice and shiny.

do you get any brake judder like if the discs are warped?

do you or your missus ride the brakes or drive the car hard?

It is not judder just a sudden brake application after little pedal pressure.
Car is driven mostly gently...I know stupid for a Gti!

I've experienced it when stop start kicks in.
At around 4-8mph, the engine starts to push against the brakes. Then at 4mph the engine will cut out, meaning the car can lurch forwards.
I have got used to it now though.

Is this what you are experiencing ?
Or is this just in general, say below 20mph?

Nothing to do with stop start, it just seems over sensitive to pedal pressure at low speed or maybe my feet are too heavy?
I have driven automatics before and not experienced this problem. I think I will take it in to the VW garage five minutes away where I bought it and hope they can sort it under warranty.

My brakes have seemed over sensitive from day one. Thought it would go away after a while, car is approaching 5000 miles and it still happens.

Have had to apologise to some passengers on a few occasions when I haven't even braked hard.

Ah, that sounds familiar to the experience I have had, it is good to know that I am not alone. I will get it booked in to the dealers.

mine are oversensitive only while using acc and car is already breaking. If I just touch break pedal it will be like slaming it to ground. I have 21000 km's and learned when to expect it and be very gentle :D

Mine when I picked him up at the dealer really felt that the brakes at the slightest pressure react, quite different from my previous Golf MK6.
But the learning curve was quick, perhaps because it was equipped with the manual gearbox and not DSG.

Quite different from what I often find myself after five months and 3100km, trying to turn off the car on the steering column when it's equipped with Keyless Access.

I too also find my brakes very grabby and very sensitive to the smallest input compared to my previous none GTI polo.

I have now got used to it and just put it down to the brand new car and also that the pads and disks have more stopping power.

The brakes on my wife's 2019 GTI+ are much grabbier than the ones on my 2018 model.

Same problem here, my brakes are erratic when it comes to application vs. output - I think I read something here about there being an update available for the ABS which solved someone's brake problems, not sure it was this fault though.

I think it's something to do with the braking system. If it thinks youre braking in an emergency then it adds pressure into the system.
It does seem as though this triggers at low speeds, you just brake softly and the car adds that bit extra. Pants.............
