Read an article this morning that says vehicle sales in the UK is the lowest since 1946:

Here in SA the numbers appear to be just as bad:

Re: Vehicle Sales under CCP Virus Lockdown
The UK new car sales figures for April don’t really come as any great surprise as we were in lockdown throughout the whole of April and car dealerships were also closed for car sales.
Here’s a link to the BBC news item covering the same subject;
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52508010
It would still have been possible to order a car via an on line broker, and some of the UK car dealerships sales teams were contactable via email. However, in the current climate, most people would have considered such things as the health of themselves and their families and being able to buy food and essential supplies to be higher priorities than shopping for a new car.
With the economic outlook being pretty grim, I wouldn’t expect to see car sales recovering to anything like pre- Covid-19 levels for a long, long time, although as and when lockdown restrictions begin to be lifted, sales should start to improve.

Thanks for the link SRGTD.
Going forward the new trend appears to be a one of "buying down":

Sad sign of the times ahead.
