Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
Getting close to my ideal spec now.
Armrest done.
Headlights upgraded to white bulbs.
Window tints done.
I really want cruise though, anyone any idea as to the cost of retrofitting it?
To be clear I DO NOT WANT ACC, I really do not like that one little bit.
Ordinary cruise is what I want.

Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
Hello!
If you wish to go through a dealer, you cannot.
I refused my first beats due to the dealer ensuring me it came with Cruise, a short journey home proved to me it did not!
After a lengthy few months of discussions they finally admitted they cannot get one fitted and it was the salesperson mistake, and will supply another vehicle FoC. I won't go on about the issues with that particular car, that's another story.
Mine was a beats. The cruise control / Speed lim function moves from the stalk to the LH of the steering wheel.
Kufatec can supply a retrofit kit, you'd need to confirm with them and likely check some numbers in your car yourself to get the correct kit. You would however still need to fit yourself, or find someone to do it for you. In addition it would need to be coded in, using something like OBDEleven or VCDS.
I can't quite remember the name but there is specific places which specialise is VAG coding and adaptions. I'm sure a google will bring nearby ones up for you. A place such as that would be able to code in and possibly fit the kit for you, obviously for a charge.
With the price of the kit and getting someone to fit / code it, it soon builds up to a hefty price mind. Me personally I have not had anything coded in, because well - I haven't added anything. So have no idea price wise would you'd be looking at. However the link below is the kit you'd need. As said above, there is various different numbers you may need to check so best buzzing an email over to them to double check what specific variant you'd need.

I wonder if I'd get away with a stalk change only, I'm not bothered about the steering wheel controls.

Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
Does normal cruise all get controlled from the stalk and only ACC cruise needs steering wheel buttons?Andy Beats wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 1:21 pm I wonder if I'd get away with a stalk change only, I'm not bothered about the steering wheel controls.
My 2019 A4 has normal cruise and everything is done from the stalk.

Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
I believe- and could well be wrong- that from the factory there are several different possibilities for cars with the MQB electrics.
VWs, Skodas, Seats with a speed limiter only have just the buttons on the indicator stalk (like most of the Polos)
VWs, Skodas, Seats with cruise (+/- speed limiter) and NO MFSW always have it on the stalk. (like a Polo S with cruise added)
VWs with cruise (ACC or regular cruise) and a factory MFSW have buttons on the steering wheel (like a GTI +, or an SE and above with factory cruise)
Seats and Skodas with standard cruise have buttons on the stalk for the most part *
Seats and Skodas with ACC have a 3rd stalk.
Audis always have the 3rd stalk- either with speed limiter, cruise, or ACC.
So what does this mean for Andy? I'm pretty sure that you could retrofit either the buttons to the wheel or a new indicator stalk, and then just code it. There are various places that do VAG retrofits, who should be able to do this for you. I know Skoda offer a kit, it seems bizarre that VW don't.
*Certain cars with lane assist but no ACC have the 3rd stalk for cruise, because they have a button on the end of the indicator stalk for the assist systems menu. However I can't work out the logic behind this- the Octavia VRS got standard lane assist but no ACC, and just has the cruise on the indicator stalk, but I've rented a facelift Leon in Spain with lane assist but no ACC and that had the 3rd stalk. Don't know if that's a model year thing or what. Skodas got an assist button on the wheel at some point- my old 2016 Fabia had one, as does my parents '17 Rapid, although in the Rapid it does nothing because there aren't any assist systems fitted!

Cheers for the very comprehensive explanation.vc-10 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 12:37 pm I believe- and could well be wrong- that from the factory there are several different possibilities for cars with the MQB electrics.

Steering wheel controls for cruise, I will happily live without - I'll investigate the stalk only option.
As an aside, did you know that if MFSW controls for cruise are fitted, there is no law to say they must light up?
Our Renault Captur MFSW controls for cruise didn't light up, it led to using the cruise control at night being a test of memory.

I don't think there's any law about cruise buttons. My old 2007 Focus had cruise and there were no lights in the buttons.

Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
I know, that's what I said.
Which is quite astounding, really.
On a dark drive, it's conceivable someone could accidentally hit 'resume' on the MFSW and find the car accelerating unexpectedly.

Do you think that only with VCDS I can activate by myself?
I was reading some forums and I understood that Cruise Control was what they call "swap" (software as a service), so I would have to pay for the dealership to enable it in my ECU
seizing the opportunity, anyone knows how to wire?
Steering wheel > BCM > ECU?

Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
I should really check here more often!
The buttons on the MFSW do light up yes, I don’t see no reason why you wouldn’t be able to fit a stalk and use that. Plus you’ll keep the mute button on the steering wheel, which I missed dearly when I got cruise
And yeah VCDS will be able to code, relying on correct modules being installed on your car to begin with.
I have no idea or experience with it, it’s just what I’ve picked up on various forums and from a friend on mine coding his in on a passat.

Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
Hi, I don’t know how far you’ve got but I wanted cruise control (stalk) on my SEL and several aftermarket ones were available but at around £800 so I asked a dealer if they could fit the genuine VW stalk for cruise and they said yes. I have it fitted now for £375 + VAT and works great. From the paperwork left behind there was a lot of coding it into the car, as well as fitting the new replacement stalk (which feels much nicer to use too)Andy Beats wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 2:27 pm Getting close to my ideal spec now.
Armrest done.
Headlights upgraded to white bulbs.
Window tints done.

To be clear I DO NOT WANT ACC, I really do not like that one little bit.
Ordinary cruise is what I want.
Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
This is interesting - I had drawn a complete blank trying to get cruise retrofitted - Could you say which dealer fitted it for you?AHA polo wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 4:47 pmHi, I don’t know how far you’ve got but I wanted cruise control (stalk) on my SEL and several aftermarket ones were available but at around £800 so I asked a dealer if they could fit the genuine VW stalk for cruise and they said yes. Also you mention the stalk fitting....I haven't yet seen any other 2018> Polo with cruise on the stalk - only on the steering wheel buttons.
So I guess this is a rather 'non-standard' fitting?
Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
As I understand it there were 2 options for cruise control when ordering a new polo in 2018, a ‘normal’ cruise using a slightly different stalk for £290 and an ‘ACC’ cruise using steering wheel buttons (with radar control) which was £600. Both of these would have VAT added so £375 + VAT seemed ok to me.
It was done by Marshall VW in Newbury, the VW paperwork was left in the car for me (I guess as proof this is genuine VW and covered under warranty etc)

Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
OK thanks for the info - very useful to know.
That sounds like a good deal.
All the used ones I'd found turned out to be speed limiting only on the stalk (despite often being advertised with cruise control).
I've actually recently ordered a new United model which comes with it on the steering wheel but if it's hugely delayed it would be a good backup plan to buy a used model and retrofit the same way you have. (Cruise is kind of essential for me).

Re: Retrofit cruise (NOT ACC)
If possible, could you upload the receipt showing the part numbers used etc?
I'm undecided if I'll bother now, I'd rather save the dough for getting out of the contract sooner and getting back into an EV.
But others might find it helpful.
