Highline RVC Emblem retrofit

Post by penguinemit »

Just managed to fit a highline RVC to my Polo AW. Did quite a bit of research before I attempted it but I'm never confident until it works.

I got a 3G0827469 with KA2 highline camera from vwmodul_de on ebay ~£280 with delivery. Could have got it a bit cheaper but these said that the parameter file was uploaded and that it worked with the Polo AW. It didn't include a new drain pipe so ordered a 510827861A.

Took a whole day to install and code camera. Only issue I encountered was that the drain plug on the new emblem came out 90deg to where it should be so had to put a bend in the drain pipe. I will look at either replacing the emblem or using a bend as I am a bit worried about it kinking.

Hardest bit was running the cables in the boot lid. Ended up using a cheap usb borescope to get a draw wire before pulling the cables though. I removed the connector from the can wires as this made it a lot slimmer.

Once it was wired to the quadlock on the stereo I powered it temporary via the 12v socket to confirm it worked. As soon as you put it into reverse it should open as it has can data. Once it was working I used a spare way in the fuse box by the drivers leg. The corrected fuse couldn't be used as the live side wasn't populated.

Had to remove a fair bit of trim. Some notes from doing it and pages from general body repairs interior:

Code: Select all

Rear Seats Page 235
C Pillar Page 173
Rear Shelf Support Page 185
Dash side panel Page 135
Glove Box Page 23
Light switch in electrical system manual.

These are the coding changes I made via VCDS once the module was enabled:

Code: Select all

ENG122227-ENG117496-Car_ENG122229-ENG117712-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-VPS_0x0B,activated
ENG122229-ENG117713-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-VPS_0x0B_msg_bus,Databus Infotainment
Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc,activated
Had to enabled PDC as no other sensors a fitted. Found on this thread (some of the other coding in incorrect in thread)
https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php? ... ost-186100

Still not looked at calibrating it but haven't noticed it not being calibrated yet.

From VCDS the camera is ;SW:5Q0-980-556-B HW:5Q0-980-556-B.

Photos are poor quality but I was tired and cold.

I would be interested to see if it could be done any cheaper by getting the component individually and then the drain tube could be correct too.

Good, patient job there and not a bad price, they reckon to be circa £300. I saw a video on Youtube fitting a RVC to a Golf, German guys but the vid is in English, they too said it took roughly a day and the biggest faff was threading the wiring. In fact they showed how they'd initially routed the camera wiring incorrectly through the hatch door and it would have been trapped had they not correctly re-threaded them, but it worked in the end....

Hi friend,

Do you have any advice on removing the rear C trim near to the trunk..? See image below :

I've tried to remove it by following instructions but it's really hard fixed and I am afraid to break it, the clips are really strong and is hard to reach them. If you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it :).

Btw, I've bought the camera on Aliexpress with retrofit and everything for about 90 euros, I can share link if someone else is interested, I've already connected everything to check that it works correctly and it went like a charm, really easy installation and plug and play. Now I have to do the wiring from the rear to the front, which is resulting to be really annoying because is hard to remove trim pieces :(.

Best.

Hi everyone, I managed to remove the plastic part. You need to remove the two other black plastic trims below: piece number 2 on my previous image - right; and the other piece which is at the side in trunk. This last one in the trunk is not needed to remove it completely, just in the side in order to have enough place to pull the upper piece out. If you don't take out these 2 pieces, it's really difficult to take it out. Once you do this, then you have to apply a lot of strength when pulling the piece out. I recommend you to start pulling from the trunk side.

I attached some pictures where you can see the clips. It might be useful for someone.
