Remapping 1.6TDi is dangerous?

Post by Harrihealey02 »

Hi all

I remapped my 1.6tdi last year with Remapkings and the power I received was much better than stock! 95hp to 140hp and 250nm to 310nm! I had this map for a couple of months until my DPF filter broke. Turns out it was a faulty EGR cooler which damaged the DPF + remap made it worse. My question is that since the damaged EGR cooler, will having that same remap possibly damage the engine equipment again? This time I’m tempted to get the economy map which only increases BHP by 10 and gives 10% economy boost.

I received a new DPF and a new EGR cooler under warranty (didn’t mention the remap 👀) And it’s now back to stock map.

Not really, the EGR on a number of TDI engines will die anyway, sooner or later. I don't believe a tune will add to it if done properly.

Struggling to think how a remap could make EGR cooling fail faster...
Only thing I can think of is the tune makes the exhaust gases hotter, which places more demands on the cooling..?
Possibly....maybe....dunno.
