Retractable parcel shelf

Post by breeza »

Hi,

With a dog in and out of the car I just have my parcel shelf sat in the garage most of the time. Has anyone found a decent retractable shelf?

I’ve never seen one for a Polo; I think retractable load covers tend to be mainly for estate cars. There’s probably not much demand for these covers for a small hatchback car like a Polo when the hinged parcel shelf does the job and is probably cheaper to produce than a retractable cover.

Your best bet might be to find a company that makes custom makes these (if there is such a company). I dare say it’s likely to be quite expensive though if it’s a one-off custom made cover.

Almost certain they won't fit. On my old A4, the cover rolls up into a big tube that clips into the sides of the boot along the backrest of the rear seats, all you've got is a few very small peg holes for the parcel shef. You also need somewhere at the opening of the boot for the cover ends to hook into the sides of the boot. No such place on the Polo is there?

No, I guess you would have to screw on little clips for it to slot into.

My ID3's parcel shelf is up in the loft due to doggy needs.

All cars with a boot big enough for a lab should have a retractable load cover :D

How big is big enough? Our Lab seems fine in our ID3's boot, which is a bit bigger than a Golf's.

With the shelf out, I have wrapped a towel around the rear headrests to stop her drooling directly onto them. We have 2 kids seats in the back, so no rear need for the headrests.

Yeah our lab is fine in the back of our Golfs (GTD & GTI). The GTI is at the end of its lease so swapping for the polo so I can share it with my son when he turns 17. I am going to really miss my GTI

The polo boot looks like it should be OK for short trips. He loves a trip even if it's just to pick the kids up from school.

I like the solution my Fabia had. You could kind of tip the parcel shelf forwards, so it sat behind the back seats, flush with them. It's a little awkward to get it in, but once there is reasonably well secured and allows a dog a good look out!
