Spot for fuse is there, but nothing else afaik, so would have to custom fit it all, but this should be straight-forward

Only thing is - which VW has the same size mirrors that fold? Also must be heated ones too... ??

I recon if we have the correct size mirror and mechanism inside it to do the folding and it fits flush on the polo, then its just electrical to do

Could wire it up to a new switch on centre console (maybe fabric sliding roof switch, to keep oem look) press it and they close :D

Then again it could be a function of a central convienance module... a pin out from ELSA should help find the correct pin to shoot 12v down to make it close and open, maybe?

you never know, perhaps a polo or lupo in another country has folding mirrors??? its odd that the icon is in the user manual for the car and on the fuse card

hmm  :)

the procedure is not directly applicable to polos but it should give a rough idea. HTH

i now have an urge for electrically folding mirros, is there anyone on here who knows if it is possible to get them to close when i take key out the ignition? or do they work when you turn the adjustment knob?

I think some cars have them operated via the ignition (BMW's I think), and the Audi A4 Cab for example has a position you put the knob in which folds them in, (so it has a position for Left, Right, Central and Folded)

That's an extra though.

I know all of this from reading my mum and dad's manual.

Cool. Wouldn't be applicable on a car as "old" as our Polo GTis though probably.

I know that Leon Cupra R's have foldy in mirrors, they fold in when you take the key out ( i think) thats a vag car so, i dont see why you cant do it.

I want foldy wing mirrors.... :(

The cupra mirrors fold in as part of the mirror adjustment switch/knob.

I don't think they were able to do it when the key was pulled out of the ignition.. I could be wrong though.

the standard cupras have foldy in mirrors as standard, but as sidaba said, it is done via the mirror adjustment knob and not when u take the key out of the ignition!
couple of times i drove off with the mirrors folded in and wandered why i could see myself in them when driving normally!!

Maybe there could be some way you could make them fold in on VAG-COM? Same way which you can make the doors unlock when you take the key out.....?

Unless there is an electrical mechanism already in place (which i dout)then you wont be able to program it via VAG COM....

The mirrors do push in, but squirt WD40 in and all around the 2 sliding surfaces, as they are prone to welding by dirt...let it soak in for a while and try gently pushing inwards.

Steady on there, that thread's last post was almost 13 years ago - probably a BMW owner now?

Anyway, yes, it is always a good idea to check the operation of the mirrors every maybe 6 months so that they remain able to fold, VW mirrors seem to be okay, but my older daughter once had a 6K Ibiza an early 2002 car, by the time she owned it it was 4 years old and both mirrors were solid - that was until a car touched one and snapped it off, it should have folded but couldn't, after that when she got a new mirror fitted, I worked away at the passenger side and got it freed up and lub'd - as the primary reason for mirrors folding is for pedestrian safety I would have thought it would be a good idea to check these items at MOT time?

Just got around to replying to it :D ....BMW  I doubt if VW drivers go on to drive that rubbish  Always carry a can of WD40 in yer pants...every VW needs it.
