Strange Noises

Post by munsterpolo »

Drove to a game yesterday 3 people in the car including myself so the car wasn't full by any means. Nearly every bump we hit the car was squeaking. Oh one more noise, car is still under warranty, for the past two months or so i've been hearing a pop and a rubbing sound can't really pin point exactly where this noise is coming from again this only happens going over bumps, but every time i bring it back to the garage they bring it for a test drive and they hear nothing from the car :x . This is driving me around the bend. Has anyone come accross any of these sounds from the 9N Polo. Is there any common fault in the Polos suspension??

A bit off topic...I know about the Seat Cupra console bushes, but are there any uprated wishbone bushes out there? What about the rear suspension?

Well, my Wishbone bushes decided to give way at about 28k miles (albeit the car was nearly 5 years old at the time), so it's possible!

One thing to remember, if it is your TCA rear bushes that are split - and if you can raise the car on axle stands you can check for this, then go to an indie VAG specialist and ask them to fit the solid Ibiza Cupra ones as they do last a lot longer and help reduce front tyre uneven wear and improve the feel of the car.

Yup during wet road conditions they tend to make less or no noise for an unknown reason.

But yes it is definately the bushes and should be replaced by either POWERFLEX or SEAT IBIZA CUPRA R.

When it is raining,m the water will lubricate the rubber and hide this noise quite a bit.

HI once again,

This is going to sound daft, as suspension is one of the things I know bugger all about

What's the difference between wishbone and console bushes?

I'm looking to fit either the Koni STR.T kit or Bilstein B4 dampers with Eibach Pro-Kit springs. Which bushes would you recommend replacing with uprated ones? And which ones Seat or Powerflex? Mind you, last August VW replaced my "front and rear bushes" under warranty as they were corroded...same time my front springs were replaced...

Sorry to sound daft. All help appreciated.

EDIT:
Would you recommend changing the front ARB bushes as well as the rear bushes as well?

That's odd - we have the exact opposite with ours (1.2 2002 Polo). Mostly it's quite quiet and normal, but in rain and damper weather we get a noticeable squeak/creak from the suspension, usually when stopping or starting (eg any kind of acceleration or decelleration) or certain types of bump. Generally it goes away, or at least becomes a lot less noticeable, when things dry out. Is this something completely different, and do we need to get it checked out?

I too have found that I get strange suspension noises in the front, mainly the driver's side during wet weather. Any ideas please? My car is 10 years old but has very low mileage.
