I have a low mileage (25,000) 1.4 BBY engine that I intend to swap out for a problematic engine in my Polo 9n.
What would be the best oil to use for an engine at this mileage please?
Which oil for low mileage 1.4 16V (BBY)?

Would Fuchs Titan XTR be OK (it's a very good price at the moment) assuming I change regularly?

No. It's not VW505 approved
Have you got a TPS local? Their Quantum Longlife 3 (which is now made by Fuchs) is only £15+vat

Thanks again. There is. It could be an option. I'm using Shell Helix 5W 30 (VW505) for my other car (a Toyota) and have surplus so will use that for now.

Good evening,
Sorry for potentially hijacking the thread, but this is close to a question I have:
How do I know if I have an AUA, BBY, etc engine?
It is a 9N 1.4 53 plate, not sure what other factors there are in the equation.
Thanks,
Colin

That car is too late to be an "A" series of engine, so it will be a "B" series, and if 75PS output it should be a BBY - if it has FSI on the hatch it will be an 85PS B??.
Have you looked on the top of the cambelt cover, the black plastic cover on the extreme RHS (looking forward from the driver's seat) end of the engine, there should be a paper label stuck on there during engine manufacture and you should be able to make out the 3 letter engine code on it.

Thanks! The one place I didn't look was the service book. It had a dotmatrix label stating BBY.
I'll check the cambelt cover too just to be doubly sure!
