1.4tdi loss of power rough idle.

Post by Greatkingshark »

Hello everyone, first off apologies if I'm in the wrong section!

Basically I have a 1.4tdi and a short while ago it would sporadically start running lumpy, have total loss of power, struggle to exceed 3k revs. If I thrned the engine off and on after a few seconds it ran sweet as a nut again.

I cleaned out the MAF and this rectified the problem for a short time.

Now, however, from cold, the car runs fine for approx 5 minutes and then the above symptoms will reoccur and will not rectify at all.

I'm no mechanic so am unsure what to do. I've ran an obd which throws up no codes so am at a loss.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

When was it last serviced? Has it had a fuel filter change recently?

Clean and reset the throttle body also

As Alex said - Fuel filter ?
Blocked fuel tank vent/fuel line ?
Dodgy fuel cut off solenoid/wiring (if this engine has one) ?
Does the fuel line out of the fuel tank/tank fuel pump have a filter/gauze in the tank pump unit ? I have had one of those clog up before (not VW)

It will not harm to change the fuel filter first. It could be a blocked DPF as I had a similar fault with a Astra cat a few years ago. It started and reved a bit but then when you tried to move it stalled. dropped the cat started it reved and moved fine. Replaced the cat and all was well.

1.4 TDI doesn't have a DPF, apart from those used in the bluemotion / ecomotive / greenline trim.

OP really should get diagnostics done on it with VCDS / similar.

Hello everyone. Tried above and no luck. There are no error codes or anything. Sporadically the car turns back fine again I really don't understand what could be causing it.

Theres a known fault on the injector looms on these. Might be worth checking the wiring over

Have same 1.4tdi.

We had this a number of years ago however ours threw up an error code.

Firstly the camshaft sensor went then the crank sensor.
