Help - Polo Specialist Sought in London missfire issue

Post by tintinp »

Hi there

I need help. Can anyone recommend a good honest VW polo specialist in London. Problem my daughter's 2004 Polo 1.2 55 bhp had the engine warning light come on. I took it to my regular mechanic and his diagnostic tool showed cylinder 2 was misfiring. We check compression and it was low. So took the head off, changed the valves, skimmed the head, changed the timing belt , gaskets etc.. Now the diagnostic tool is showing misfire in cylinder 3. He has also had the ECU checked and that came back with no faults.

Even he suggested a VW main dealer, but the nearest ones to me Citygate have awful reviews. I really need an honest trustworthy specialist who can diagnose what is wrong and estimate the cost of repair so I can decide the fate of the little Polo.

Thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum!

It sounds that what you need to locate near you is a VAG Indie not knowing London I can’t help, but does the internet not give you some suggestions as there must be some, good luck.

I could not leave you not getting any replies after maybe 6 hours and 15 people viewing your topic!

Hi Rum40,
Thank you for replying. You are right there are lots of Independent specialists.. I was not sure which to choose.. I think I have one selected, who seem to have positive reviews. I thought I would go for someone recommended from Polo owners .

Thanks again though.

That's okay, 38 viewings and still a wall of silence - though, in all fairness to other 9N Polo 1.2 owners these cars are at an age that most people would just be using the cheapest route to keeping them going, but you have invested a chunk of money to resolve this one, so it makes sense to get it fixed completely, and will probably mean heading for one of these unknown but possibly very good VAG Indies, maybe ask the rude question "are you handy at sorting out the 1.2 3 pot petrol engines?" they can only say YES or NO?

Hi RUM4MO
You are correct I have invested money in it already, also my daughter has just passed and was just getting used to driving the Polo, aside the misfire its a great little car interior and exterior, seems such a shame to scrap it and I don't want to sell it with a fault.
There is an Independent VW/Audi garage near Harrow which has positive reviews.. so I will book it.

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated.
