I know when you remove an oil filler cap the engine will become unhappy and I thought I would do this on my daughters 1.2 9N and wondering what this noise is. Its only there with cap off but sometimes I can hear this noise when pulling away. It idles and revs so smoothly and quietly, its just under load. Had the belt off and all pulleys seem secure.

Is it just the fact its a 3 cylinder diesel sound or is there something knocking? Is it normal in other words. Could it be the exhaust flexi pipe?
Any thoughts much appreciated
Cheers
Andrew

The 3 cylinder diesels are quite noisy. If the noise isn’t there with the cap on it’s nothing to worry about

Hi Alex
It’s a petrol engine but it sounds like a diesel sometimes when pulling away under lad. Quiet on idle but it Mayes that noise with oil cap off
Presume you comment is the same

Sorry I misread, but yes, with the oil cap off you’ll hear a lot of noise as the oil slaps around the cylinder head. If the noise isn’t there with the oil cap on, it’s all good.
