How to check Static Timing?

Post by 1jayp »

Hi fellow VW colleague's,
I have my daughter's VW Polo Mk6 (I think?) 2002, 1.2 3 cylinder petrol engine with a plate that mentions 9N in engine compartment.
The car had a clutch problem and I changed that myself. The reassembly went well with all items and wiring in their place.
Now the engine will not start and turns over without any problem. There is compression, spark and fuel, so engine should start. I'm thinking that the timing chain has jumped and need to find a way to check this without dismantling the engine.
Is there a way to check the static timing without having access or view of the chain?
I've looked at all the pulleys and none have the old school timing marks....
Help please ???????

Thanks in advance, Jay....
