2004 belts

Post by Dawn »

Hi all.
So today ive been down the motorway. My car sounded fine. Parked up at home. Went back outside afew minutes later and noticed there was a belt of some kind on the floor just near my back wheels. Im not sure if its mine as its on street parking. Does anyone know where the belts are located in my engine please. Its a 2004 manual petrol

One quick and easy way to check if it is your auxiliary belt is, put the key in the ignition and switch to the first position, is the charging failure warning light lit, probably a red light? If so then start the engine, is this same light now off, if it is that was not your auxiliary belt.

Sorry I can't remember exactly what the charge failure warning light looks like on that car.

Is that the one thats on the drivers side. Pretty big. About 1 to 2 foot long if cut and layed out flat... so that is the only belt in my whole engine.. sorry for all the questions but i haven't a clue. I just found this belt under my car and panicked

Yes that is the crankshaft pulley end of the engine, the other end gets connected to the gearbox. That belt drives the alternator and Air Con compressor via a few relay pulleys and tensioner pulley.

No, no more external belts, if your car has the 1.4 16V petrol engine it has an hidden behind a cover toothed belt, if your car has a 1.2 3 cylinder petrol engine it does a chain enclosed instead of the toothed belt the 1.4 16V engine has.
