Hi there.
Can any one help?
I have a 2005 1.2 petrol polo.
This has happened twice now but only for short periods.
Whilst driving down a straight ish road at about 50mph I heard a knocking from front end then as I slowed for traffic the steering notched slightly and the slower I got the knocking and notching happened at the same time.
The last time it happened I pulled over for a while and when I moved car to a safer spot it hasn't done it again. That was two days ago.
Many thanks
Knocking sound and notchy steering.
Re: Knocking sound and notchy steering.
My first guess would be bearing/cv joint failing.
Or
I had a passenger side driveshaft coupling (gearbox side) come undone once, but the Mrs was driving, so I couldn't comment on how it felt. That's quite a common fault on these I think. That resulted in total loss of gearbox oill, and intermittent loss of 5th gear too.

Thanks for the reply Rob, weird thing is its not done it again. The fact that it was ok after stop and start again leads me to think it may have something to do with the electronic steering but not intirerly sure. #gottolovecars
