Polo 9n SDI 02
Polo 9n SDI 02
Help
My son has bout a polo 9n sdi with 120000 miles on. It was a bit smokey apperantly when he bought it. I now have it here on my drive and it smokes on idle and has a neat smoke screen trick when you drive it. I know they arnt the most powerful things but this struggles at the sight of a hill. Mechanically its sound and body is spot on.
When you do drive it the diesel rattle increases to much louder levels along with the smoke screen.
I've changed oil air and fuel filters but it hasnt helped one jot. \egr valve looks clean and its showing a few error codes. Where do I start with this ? Cheers

Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
Welcome
The SDIs are pretty robust, probably some minor things to fix this
First Issue - EGR is either faulty or the wiring has a break in it
Second Issue - Theres a fault with the intake manifold flap - http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 101/012545
Third Issue - The cold start injector has a open or short to earth, again a wiring problem or its faulty.
VAG Error Code: 17660
EOBD II Error Code: P1252
Fault Location:
Cold Start Injector (N108) - Open Circuit/Short Circuit to Earth
Possible Cause:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
Fuse(s).
Wiring/Connector(s) open circuit/short to earth.
Cold Start Injector (N108).

Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
They are likely all on the same earth so that’s probably something to check
Re: Polo 9n SDI 02

Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
I’ll check the wiring diagram tomorrow for you to give you some guidance
Any idea on the engine code? Pop a photo up of the sticker under the boot carpet if you can

Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
Appreciate it thanks I'm at work at the moment so it will be later this afternoon thanks again
Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
I'm reading on google that these problems may be thrown up by a water damaged ECU ? Have you heard of this and could you swop a like for like ECU over without much drama ? Just looking for options in case it's not a fuse or earth.
Cheers and brain mashed

Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
Id be surprised if it was a water damaged ECU. This sounds more like wiring or similar issues. Are you handy with a multimeter? You can easily test for earth continuity on each plug
Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
Yeah I can do the basics with a multi meter so that will be my mission tonight. I'll try see if theres an earth to the egv solenoid first as I can at least see that lol

Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
Brown is always earth on these cars on any connector, so test continuity between the earth pin, and the negative on the battery as a starter for ten
Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
Here the sticker just going to go through engine bay and drive ers fuse box
Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
Both wires brown and brown have continuity with live ? The brown has a white tracer

Re: Polo 9n SDI 02
Which plug is that off? Thats brown/white so it might well be a power feed. Ill check the diagram once you confirm
