2005 VW Polo 1.416v Sport (9N)

Post by Yokomokid »

Hi, can anyone advise. My son has bought a 2005 polo 1.4 16V polo. it has an RAC telematics box fitted which throws up fault codes random misfire on cylinders 2 & 4. EML is not on and car really runs well with no loss of power. The only I have noticed is that when you rev it and the revs drop down, they will pick up slightly at 2500 and the engine just runs a little rough for a split second. Engine has a very minute rock on tick over, and I mean minute and seems to be running on all 4 cylinders. Has new plugs (not coils) & filter and has full service history.

It might be worthwhile to swap the coil packs on the affected cylinders with those on the good cylinders and check if the fault moves with them.

Thanks for the reply. Will swap over and see what happens. If coils are the issue do you recommend any particular replacements bar genuine vw packs. Is it common for eng man light not to come on.

Cannot recall if the EML came on when I had a problem with the coil packs. I think it was flashing though. If the packs were just starting to go it the effects might not be enough to trigger the EML.

For key components I'd go with original equipment unless there is a good reason to fit something else.
