No feedback when locking/unlocking the car

Hey, guys! I'm new around here (and also not from the UK but shhh it's our secret), mostly because I just got my driver's license and, subsequently, acquired a VW Polo 9N from '03.

With the introduction out of the way, let me go on about the main issue. Whenever I used to lock or unlock the car, it made a beep or two and flashed it's turn signals. All well and good, up until a few months ago when my battery died and, after recharging it, the car stopped beeping and flashing its lights whenever i locked or unlocked it.

My question: does anyone around here know how exactly I can get the beeping and flashing back? It would be wonderful to have those things back, as stupid as it may sound.
