Intermittent rear wiper

Post by Andrew S »

My rear wiper does not do a complete wipe, it goes so far, stops then suddenly start and keeps repeating this until it gets to it’s original position.

Is this a relay or cut out under load?

Any help appreciated
Cheers

Is the centre nut tight or the arm broken ?

I have now checked and the wiper arm is not loose on the spindle :(

I understand there isn't a separate relay.

The front wipers are fine and so is the intermittent setting

The problem I have on the rear is that the arm moves almost halfway across teh rear screen, then pauses for say 20 seconds then completes the sweep and the same on the return.

I am presuming this will now be an MOT failure which is due 4th Jan, typical

Any help appreciated as I was thinking of buying another motor etc

Cheers

OK, have been out to the car this morning with a view to lubricating the spindle, checking the wiper arm was not loose and also that a new arm is not causing a load on the motor by the drag.

I have pulled the arm away from the glass so there is no load and this is what it does

Is this the motor causing this?

A fuse hasn't blown and there must by power to the motor

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Does the wiper work ok if you wash the rear screen ? Ie does it do a full and continuous sweep while washing.

Hi, yes, strangely is works fine full sweep. So as I stop washer it goes back to the same issue.
What does this mean ?

I think possibly the timer relay has failed, so it’s too quick not allowing a full sweep of the screen.

Although I can’t find a proper relay diagram online I’m sure there is a relay controlling it, it may be a separate item or integrated into the BCM , this you could call your local dealer about worth a call to see.

May be others have a view on your issue
