Rattle After Engine Mount Mishap

Post by DB25 »

Hi,

Recently I had my clutch replaced on my Polo 9n. The new clutch felt great for about 100 miles, until a bolt from the dogbone engine mount fell off - evidently it was not tightened enough when being reassembled...

Since then I have taken the car back to the garage to have a new bolt fitted, but now the engine has developed a faint, intermittent, bolt-like sounding rattle. It's most obvious when the clutch is engaged in either 2nd or 3rd gear, but you can hear it as well if you give the engine some revs with the clutch disengaged. From what I've read, it could be clutch bearing related, or something to do with the transmission, but I've no idea how to check this and would think clutch issues would be unlikely when it's just been replaced. Also worth noting there is a slight chink noise when engaging the clutch that didn't exist prior to the engine mount falling off.

Could the old engine mount bolt be hiding somewhere in the engine bay or am I due some expensive repairs?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Duncan
