Climatic downgrade to manual

Post by Bikergonebald »

I have a 2004 polo 1.2 with climatic control and I’ve replaced the V68 motor twice and the control dials but I still get problems with the heating staying full on.
I used VCDS and see the usual intermittent motor faults.

I’ve had enough of it now so unless someone knows another place the electrical fault can occur I want to look at changing the temperature control to manual.

Is that possible?

I think I’ve seen a system where the heat control knob turns a cable that drives the flap.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks
Kevin

I'd think that sorting out this Climatic system will be cheaper and easier than trying to bodge it into being a Manual system.

I'm guessing that the motor you have been replacing twice is the temperature flap motor, did you force the system to re-learn the end stops, ie perform Basic Settings?

Using VCDS have you looked at what the system thinks the temperature is etc so that you have confidence that all is well with the rest of the system?

Hi,
Thanks for replying. Yes it’s the flap motor I’ve replaced.

I’ve watched the temperature values and motor position values (I forget the exact names given on VCDS.) they all appear normal.

For the flap position I’ve not done any sort of reset. I have seen the saved end stop positions and I can see that the flap gets to within 1 digit of the saved value at hot and cold.

I have VCDS lite, unregistered so I can see everything but I’m not sure if I can do reset procedures.

If you need specific information let me know and I will get it later today.

Thanks for your help.

it might be worthwhile to check out why your adjustment motor keeps being unhappy.
take it out, operate it. is it working? is the flap it operates perhaps stuck? is the motor mounted correctly in relation to the flap (probably a cog/teeth drive).
have a look at the wiring as well. is it perhaps squashed or corroded at the connectors?

converting to manual a/c is a lot more work than fixing this.

so:
- take out the motor and operate it
- check the flap, move it by hand
- check the mounting of the motor in relation to the flap (motor open = flap open)
- check the wiring

Have you done the calibration after fitting new?

Yes, it's done with VCDS. I recall doing it myself after skinning my hands replacing the flap motor

It used to be called Basic Settings, but I don't know which version of VCDS you will have if it is VCDS Lite you have.

As you hinted at, the Lite version might not allow anything like that.
