nah not from my experience 13twelve, i got Blemishes put on 2 police officers records, i even had the Local Chief of Ilford Police station ring me up and ask me to come in so he could have a chat with me.

He Even apologized for the police officers Behaviour. Its all about how u present yourself, if u walk up to a policeman swearing and waving your hands at them, you wont get anywhere but if u approach them with a notepad and pen and stay civil whilst talking to them, they have no reason to get aggy with you.

You gotta remember that police officers are just normal ppl, just because they can inforce the law doesnt mean you dont have any rights against them. There are just like you and me.

I guess beause im a confident person, i come across rather well, maybe this line of action isnt for everyone, i just dont like being taken advantage of by anyone, so i fell obliged to see that the police officers are dealt with accordingly.

Suffice to say i dont get pulled over very much anymore, After getting pulled over every other day and complaining to the police, they now dont bother, they check my number plate from behind and then carry on as usual, maybe they add something to your file? Not sure.

Also when any of you guys do get pulled over, if u do have anything dodgy in your car (wotever that may be) lock your car as soon as you get out, just because you have been pulled over doesnt mean they have a right to rummage around in your car.

First find out why they have pulled you over, if you feel it is a rubbish reason and they are merely saying that to make it a legal 'stop' then refuse to let them search your car, take down there names and numbers again.

I promise you guys any cocky officer soon shuts up when you ask for his name and number, they know the trouble they can get in. Normally stops them right in their tracks.

For example, i got stopped once and the officer started swearing at me and saying to get my 'f*****g' seatbelt on and what am i doing driving around at this time of nite?

I requested his name and number and also another police car to attend to be my witnesses, as he was being very abusive, he soon shut up and let me go along my merry way.

but with the disease of happy slapping comes the benefit of personal protection (ah, the double edged sword of technology). if you have a video phone and you suspect some fun will be had with coppers, get the video running in advance and keep a VERY TIGHT HOLD. better yet get a video convo on the go, best of all if you have a strong grip send the results of any fun to as many other vidphones as you can as soon as possible (or even whilst it's in progress).

The hot water it could fling notwithstanding, a little 4GP file of that cop making like michael knight could have become an internet email classic - particularly if you get close enough to record plate and badge no!

i got bored of goin at 40 so i booted it and stayed at 60 as the national speed limit came up and he thought he could keep up round corners hahahahahah sirens and light come on

lol i think i figured out why they tailed me before, seeing the state of the sheds the local racer chavs ride round in - the two most sorry, beat up puntos you ever saw were doing their utmost to commit vehicular suicide the other night as i was on the way to the shops, in one of the surprisingly long random tailbacks that passes for late evening traffic round here.
Wouldnt have been so bad if they could actually, yknow... drive. Just for sport i actually joined in (in a safer manner) and beat them off with no real difficulty. Total inability to spot a good overtaking spot (or select the right gear) but a great eye for a terrible one that could kill them (and the other three cap wearers in the car). pfft.

havent really seen any nice ricers around here apart from the odd distinctly classic hot rod (austin 10s, that sort of thing) so it could be anyone in a banger out at night is a suspect

Q is, what are they going to do when everyone is finally obeying the limit, deaths don't fall anywhere near the amount they should, and there's then no more money coming in (face it - there's not an infinite supply of drivers and license points to support the amount of cash they must be raking).. it must already be starting to quietly hurt now they've skimmed off the really uncontrollable speed freaks (who have likely just taken to driving unlicensed and uninsured), which is why the limits and style of trap are getting frankly insane.... How are they going to spin their way out of it?

there was nothing stopping a police car timming u between two known positions (two bridges) and working out speed using distance covered/time (or whatever that equation is!)

don't take my word for it but i think they are traffic cameras! i think that speed cameras are always that yellow reflecting stuff.

can someone back me up?

Doug (or is it dan?) ... they still use the timing-tween-two-known-points thing a bit, i think! Not worth taking the risk if you've got a known jam sandwich (or a stealth one) taking an interest in you ..........

... unless you KNOW you can take them (cant say i wouldnt have been tempted on some of the local roads in the dub, could fit thru spots they couldnt have managed so easily, and i could hit every corner dead-on .. maybe not in the astra though!)

Aaron dont worry, the navy blue things are ---- for now, at least --- AA trafficmaster cameras. In fact i'm not 100% sure they're even cameras, they might just be IR detectors along the lines of a home burglar alarm, sensing traffic speed and density.

update....

The nobjockeys are winning around my area. just spotted the first signs of camera madness creeping towards my own borough, whereas it's previously been free of this BS for the past century. I have a terrible feeling that the idiots who blamed speed for a local girl's death (the guy was drunk, dammit - ordinary quick drivers dont randomly lose control and mount the curb because of doing more than 10% over the limit... or smell of beer) and then campaigned for a camera on that road to "stop it happening again" have won in the face of sensibility (i repeat: she wasnt killed by stepping out and someone failing to stop in time).

So far it's just a sign but maybe they haven't got round to installing the equipment yet. There was suspicious roadworking activity a few months back that might have been wiring installation for such. Grr.

It's a quick road, a 40 dual carriageway, few people obey it because you need bloody binoculars to see the houses and the pavements are wide enough to park vans on and still allow cycles to pass easily (this itself hidden behind 10ft of grass verge), with anyone who isnt a total goon using the many pelican crossings to get across (and theres not very much foot traffic at all anyway). Going rate is about 50 because thats what it can sensibly support, the speed dropping off when actual hazards appear, eg someone doing a dippy merging maneouver or cars parked badly (ie on the carriageway). The best thing that could improve it is the provision of off-street parking for the two main obstruction magnets, a church and a small row of shops, god knows there's enough derelict land hidden behind there, and a couple of signs advising that the corner cannot, in fact, be taken at more than 60mph (well ok, itd have to say 35 for legalitys sake).

Not a p*ssing camera when the speed of law abiding people who actually know lane discipline and how to operate the basic controls of a motor vehicle whilst sober isnt an issue. It wont stop someone getting tanked and caroming out of control again. It wont stop some old biddy forgetting to look and pulling out directly across two lanes (ok, impact speeds etc will be lower, but an accidents an accident and speed is still not the cause, just a factor - regardless of whether it's moving at 35 or 55, being able in yourself to safely pull out into or across traffic is an essential skill not an optional extra). It'll just cause either delay, or cost and dismay to several thousand users of that stretch.
Bet they'll be sticking them on the 30 zone after it that really should be a continuation of the same limit too, and usually sees speeds in the 40s (single carriageway with directly adjacent pavement, but again, wide, and houses set a goodly way back for the most part of it's length).

on a 5 mile road
one outside my sodding house...


every local speeds on the road, at times its wide and open


the only death i remember on the road is when an old lady ran out into the road without looking and it was like 5 pm friday night, so got bumped at around 20 as traffic was fairly crawling.

theres been a few stolen cars crashed, 3 since i moved there 12 years ago.


so cameras will do nothing to stop these accidents.



when they put those grey boxes with the 2 wires sticking out that go over the road, a speed camera will follow

cos those things record how many cars doing what speeds - whereever they put one will show them how commercially viable a speed camera could be and a month later, up pops a gatso...

Out side on the dual carriage way by work which is a 30mph zone there is 4 in less than a half a mile stretch!!!

3 one way and one the other way. The 3 are in spitting distance (not that i've tried, but im just guessing )

The blue are definetely only Traffic Monitorring Cameras. All speed cameras have to have some yellow reflective stuff on em now, (or painted yellow).

I dont know what the green ones are for though, same size as the blue ones just a different colour.

Most of them, but not quite all. I think it's anything the police operates must be painted in high vis colours, usually yellow but there are some blue ones about and also red/yellow striped, especially in scotland. However there are cameras that aren't painted high vis colours and are still grey, most notably on the M25 gantries through the variable speed limit area. I think they're government operated so don't have to be high visibility, something suitably ridiculous like that..

theres a gatso linked to each and every last one of the variable limit gantries btw, if you didnt realise... hidden behind the signs. course theres only a very few in operation at any one time (they're all still film based jobs, and have highly paranoid activation criteria to avoid lawsuits) and the limits are fairly lax, but they are still there.

think the looky likey scheme on the southern m42 is going to be a lot more harsh (probably using digital type cameras like the Peek variety (half gatso, half truvelo, all evil) or even SPECS)... judging by the sheer quantity of crossways toothmark lines and cctv posts gathered thicker than the trees on the verge.

just in case i came across wrong before: i'm not talking about people racing the clock to try and get somewhere, or just racing in general whether for fun or competition with other people or a deadlines of any sort. Most of us have done it, i know i've done it a lot, not proud but sometimes you just have to punch it to try and reach point B in a certain too-short length of time after leaving point A, balancing trips out of the top end of your comfort zone where your brain, but not your gut, tells you it's possible against places where you simply have to grit your teeth and stay restrained, vs the progress that you have to make, trying to strike a happy balance... Product half of not leaving enough time before starting (whether your own fault or not), half of the "better never than late" society we're in.
I was merely referring to the vast majority of people going with the traffic flow, meeting a sustainable, natural speed of progression in a relatively unstressed journey, trying to make it from A to B in a reasonable but largely unmetered time. That speed of progression, as we are not robots in a computer, being a fairly fluid and analogue thing dependent far more on the conditions than a multiple-of-10 number on a little round sign, decided and placed by some faceless bureaucrat... though it may not be so in future.

Wish i knew who these people are who make these decisions. I'd like to meet them, talk things over (with a couple of bodyguards - of MY employ, in a purely defensive role), find out what exactly they're up to, take them "off the record" and see what, if anything, is behind the scenes. And then give them a surprise by whipping out a psychoanalyst and a couch and seeing if they're something deeply, dangerously wrong with them.
