find that hard to believe - a garage would pay more than that for the trade in? - is it stolen / recovered ;)

Some guy traded it into the ford garage he works at, for a Fiesta St, they only gave him £3400 for it, so they let my mate just buy it straight off.

well if they did then the guy must've been a f*****g t*t for accepting it!

My other half has access to all the VAG main dealers systems due to her job. She can see what the garages paid for the cars when they buy in for part ex's. The garage we got our 2001 Y plate 5dr gti from paid 6K. They get a kickback from VW for the turnover of used cars, so it's in their interests to buy back and re sell...hence the low mark ups and high trade in values.

Volkswagen Polo Hatchback
1.6 GTi 3d 2001/51
Insurance Group 12 (get a quote)
Average mileage: 40,000 miles
Cost New ('01) £ 13280
Franchised Dealer £ 6030
Independent Dealer £ 5605
Private Good £ 5225
Private Poor £ 4035
Part Exchange £ 4845

that's parkers guide - so he's either pulling your leg, or it was a bit of a shed - cant believe a main dealer skanked him for over a grand!

If thats what ur after i'd get it I paid £6500 from vw for mine, however no leathers, full VW service history.

The only thing is that i prefer the orginal BBs alloys.

Yeah, over the 18 months or so that the GTi was sold, not all that many really made it onto the streets. The GTi was introduced in mid-2000 and there was a full model change (introduction of the 9n) not long after :)

I have some numbers noted down soewhere at work on my desk with the numbers of cars that were imported, it came up here on the forum some time ago. Will try and find them for you!

I was told by the main dealership thats run by my dads good friend that they made 3000, 1000 for every colour, quite alot of those will have been written off though.
