Corroding boot handle

Post by Si_GTi »

As expected, my boot handle is starting to corrode! But what makes matters worse is that on one part, some paint has been chipped off the handle and the plstic underneath is exposed to the elements - damage done by one or more VW techies when my boot lock barrel was replaced last year! :?

Here's the damage:

That bit circled in red is the exposed part where the paint has come off. I haven't gone back to VW because I only noticed a few days after the work had been done and they will deny all knowledge. Not to worry, I want to have the handle removed and resprayed to get it looking back to it's best! How much do you reckon it will cost me, and can anyone recommend a reputable bodyshop in the West Midlands or mid-Wales area?

At the moment my best bet is to take it to Pant Motor Bodies in Pant, nr. the Welsh border.

Has this happened to anyone else's car yet?

Cheers

Yeah mine started to corrode aswell mate. Can just about make it out on the top part of the handle.

I took mine off, rubbed it down to the bare surface then primered, painted it and laquered it myself.

Can't seem to find a pic of the finished item. But is perfect now.

P.S i colour-coded my badge aswell. 8)

They all do it, VW sprayed mine before I bought it but they did a crap job, its easy enough to spray yourself because its so small.

Get your paint code from the log book and get some paint from the stealers, and some primer. And do what Del_Gti did. Make sure you prerpare the handle correctly, and it would help if you have a warm dry environment to spray and then store the handle in whilst it dries.

Have a butchers at this: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... L=/263.asp
