I am currently creating a 'buying guide' for the Polo 6n. So i need any problems you've had, like rust hotspots etc.... bascially anything you think will help people looking at buying a 6n.
So go for it peeps.......

- Under the rubbers that cover the holes in the doors, where the hinge goes in
- At the very end of the rubber strips on the roof, where the roof meets the boot lid
- Behind the plastic mirror bases (normally invisible)
Same fault as Caddy's etc. Clutch goes stiff, doesn't get changed in time, puts strain on Cable and twists/breaks/cracks pedal box mounting bracket that's bolted to the bulkhead.
Ask any GSF Van driver I spoke to my local main dealer about the price of the bracket - not bad only £25 or so. BUT is a PITA of a job
Pollock, tell me what are those stunning alloys you have on your Polo? Really want a set!
-Look for electric windows, both of mine failed in 66k miles
-Cambelt changed between 40-60K
-Electric mirror heaters pack up: £36 for the glass!
-Check inside the boot under the carpet for a factory sticker with option codes and engne code. If this is missing, car has been rear-ended
-Engine starts and instantly cuts out on every cold start (takes two+ go's to get it started, unless you hit the accelorator (sp) pedal instantly the first time
-Power steering pump went
-Faulty temperature sensor
no did i buggery!! im a bit struck for cash at the mo but im gonna get a garage to have a look, ive sprayed loads of throttle body cleaner in and that works for a while then it starts doing it again, if u have any suggestions pls tell????
could be the temp sensor on the thermostat housing. this went in my mk4 not so long ago.
first symtoms were like u said, struggling to cold start. then the idle went to cock & eventually it just wouldnt start at all. the sensor only costs £20 & isn't hard to replace if u know your way around under a bonnet.
So far my car's been back to the VW dealer (under extended warranty) about 4 or 5 times!
So far i've had a new coolant temp sensor, new ECU,and a new throttle position potentiometer plus a couple of ECU resets.
They wont admit it, but even VW cant solve the problem.
I've also had the throttle body off, and cleaned it myself, but this didnt work either.
I'm begining to think that this is one gremlin with the MK4 that you just have to live with.
I'm taking the car to an independant VW specialist, within the next couple of weeks for a service and MOT, so i will get them to take a look at it.
If they get lucky, and are able to find a cure, i will certainly let you know,
hayesey,
do you have a part number for that temp sensor, so that i can check if it's the one they changed, or not?
As a confirmation to a few of the faults mentioned so far, this week my car experienced the demise of both window motors two days after one another (very expensive parts btw) and the throttle body cleaning/idling issue.
