manual choke conversion on mk2 polo!!!

hi guys/gals question. i have a mk2 1.3 fitted with a pierburg 2e autochoke,my problem being that the autochoke housing has corroded where the hot water enters into it. anyhow after removing this an bypassing it i have found there is a lever that controls the choke. my question being i have heard you can convert thos to a manual choke system, but i have asked at local car accessory shops and they no longer stock the conversion kit, is there any way i can use the austin mini/metro manual choke cable sourced from a scrapyard. i.e convert it to be used on my carb? sorry for the long question but i appreciate your help on this
