One of many reasons mainly revolving round cars (a few of em) and life in general - that basically conspires to screw you sometimes

The Beemer was a replacement for my much loved Senator that I just couldn't face welding up again for another years motoring!!!

I still have the Polo MKIV and it gets used every day but I haven't done a thing to it for a year

Right well I got my BBS RXIIs this morning. Theyre in a bit of a sorry state - i have a question :)

The outer rims - can they be sandblasted and then machine polished?

One of mine is practically 3/4 black with corrosion and im not too sure how to get it off. Im tempted to get them all done properly and save the hassle of doing it myself.

Opinions anyone?

Cheers!

No - thats the worst thing you can do

It's all in the guide - kerbing is a big problem but alloy going black under the laquer is easy and takes no time at all

No fun in my book

If I had to choose between

"I paid £XXX to get my rims done like this"

and

"I did this all myself"

I'd be far more impressed with the DIY wheels than the cheque book solution - even if they didn't look as good and there is no reason why they shouldn't

Help is at hand if you get in a muddle - just follow the guide

1/4 of a tube max

If you need more you didn't work down the wet and dry grades enough

for all  Thats really polishing it in hard then!!! i use about 1/6th per wheel ish gives it a nice deep lustre. Gotta give them another polish before i put them back together anyhow :)

As for the sealeant, is something like blue hylomar ok for the job, or does it need to be a semi hard sealant like red hermetite or similar?

With the Autosol I find you get a better finish after a few applications. ie. polishing them once, then perhaps the next day doing it again etc. Also I tend not to use that much Autosol.

agreed. it seems to work better with a few coats and leaving it a bit.

Its all trial and error when it comes to wheels like this - everyones are different, for example mine are a total state whereas someone elses arent in too bad condition and dont have to deal with excessive corrosion and all that....

Ok im on the final stretch now. One question - the inside face of the rims. What should I do about it?

It needs a new coat of paint in some places due to a bit of corrosion, so what paint should I use.

Other question: What is the outer rim made of?

Any help would be appreciated as I need to have them finished before friday!!!

Dark grey metalic spray paint from Halfords and a can of laquer to finish

Laquer on the inside ye - meaning the outside polished bit is left without?
