posted this in the MKV section but also thought ill put it up here since the gti's have had numerous gearbox problems.
yep thats right. another victim of the sh!te MK5 gearboxes. my ones making a whing noise whilst driving and im fairly confident its the gearbox on its way out. im still able to drive without any problems but want to get my one reconditioned before it leaves me stranded completely.
anyone know of any decent places that could recon the gearbox around the london area. ive heard of companies like ace gearboxes but not sure if i can trust them (the last thing i want is the replacement gearbox to mash up on me again)
any info much appreciated. btw its for a 1.4 75bhp model.

My gearbox is about to also be replaced. Do a search on yell.com for gearbox, you should get a few local companies who will recondition your old box.
Ace gearboxes quoted me £480 all in for a replacement box (includes delivery and pickup of my old box). The local place said they'd strip the internals and replace anything knackered for £350.
