D90 should be a quality camera! lucky chap! lol

bought myself a D50 kit with my first ever pay packet in the summer of 2006...2 years later its still in rude health (minus the flash).

my friend bought a D70s at the same time as well, and seeing the difference to what the newer models can do, it's quite incredible.

my next step would be a D300 or D2x though.

having said that, i think im gonna treat the D50 to another new lens

because i am skint and when you lot are spending a 1k on a cam makes my life feel worthless

Good choice mate, i have a D80 and i must say the Nikon dslrs feel so much better than all the competition from canon, olympus etc. Enjoy it

I'm looking at getting the D60. But I'm just waiting for Nikon to bring back their cashback offer before I get one

. Also going to get a Sigma 18-200mm OS lens to go with it

I was looking at the D80 around June and found out the D90 was due this month. This will be my first DSLR so will take a while to get used to, I look forward to learning how to take a good photo

the best way is just to go out and take lots of pictures, changing the settings all the time till you find out what there for and stuff. i never read the book with mine and i now know it all due to practice.

It arrived and it's a bit of a beast. Haven't really read the manual yet so went out to see what it could do on the auto setting. Most of them came out crap (meaning there is a lot of reading and practise to be done) but here are some of the better ones:

Some cool pictures there, not a bad first effort! I think you can always tell, even in internet-friendly reduced size, if a picture has been taken with a DSLR or a compact camera, the difference in quality is clearly obvious!

Good pics, with the Nikons you should usually set the saturation to the highest amount on the menu, produces much more relaistic results.

I've got a D50 + 18-200 VR lens (mmm) and a speedlight, I can't recommend the speedlight enough - indoors shots look like natural light now.

I'll eventually upgrade to a D90 or something, but I've heard the new Sony a300 is a better buy than the D60/D40 - which is pretty incredible!

Hey nice photos.
As already said, the best way to learn how to take photos with a dslr is just to fiddle with all settings. For some reason I find "sports" mode works well for most situations if you dont have time to fiddle.

Looking good so far mate. Framing is very nice on the funghi, a little questionable on some of the others but it's all good. Spider's web is pretty nice too
