Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 (I think!) because I'm on the longlife service plan. Although I won't do more than 8,000 before the 2 years are up and it needs servicing again :roll: :lol: .

does it have to have 5w 30? im just wondering because its using a lot of oil at the mo and im thinking about putting thicker oil in. any suggestions? cheers, James

Yeah 5w30. I think its just this engine that uses lots of oil. I am all ways topping mine up. I check it every two weeks and have to add a little

If you put a thicker oil in you may well notice a decrease in oil consumption but you may very well reduce the life of your engine! New engines are built to tighter tolerances, which means they're quiter, more efficient and last longer, but need thinner oils.

Just had a service and my mechanic has put 10w40 in. Is that ok?

I am running 0w 30 on my 1.4tdi fully synthetic costs a fortune but worth every penny.

Last time I had a service at VW they put 5w30 fully synthetic in mine

Oh well, its going to have to be 10w40 for the next 5,000 miles. Will put 5w30 in on the next oil change.

Anyone know if the 10w40 makes a difference to the engine?
Rang VW and they said I should be using 0w30 as it’s on a Long Life Service Plan. :?
