Had the GTI for nearly a month now and have started to fix things here and there. Very low on money (and skill) at the moment, so im starting very simple. Just trying to get things nice and clean and fresh to begin with. After two new tyres and a new brake switch the work begun! After buying a few Auto Glym bits and pieces I gave it a nice clean and it looked like this;



Then the work started with new GTI badges and grab handles,

Next on the list were the wheels. They were really bad and letting the car down. Really wanted to do the whole strip down and start from fresh, but dont really have the time, money or spare wheels at the moment, so i managed to bodge it a bit. I'm actually quite pleased with the results, took about 2 hours to get one like this. Just used lots of wire wool, and primer, some random VW silver and lacquer. Got the whole lot for around £12, so its a bargin i think!







Good enough finish for the mud car park at uni for the year anyway! Still got my eyes open for a new set though, if any come along...

Yea i'm a UWE guy, are there a few of us around then?

I'm hoping that the wheels wont offend anyone lol, ive seen a few amazing looking cars on here, but trust me in the flesh cheapy halfords paint looks a damn sight better than manky flaking paint and corrosion. Anyway got the car looking acceptable now, but not really sure what to look at doing next.

Oh while im here, any thoughts of decent interior shampoo? (or similar) I have a few little marks and dirt on the red door cards and seat,

Autoglym HiFoam interior shampoo is spot on - 100% recommend using that as its very very good

I normally end up being stuck in good old car park 20 Didn't mind so much last year when I was driving a shed, but not looking forward to it this year. Sometimes hide in the B&Q car park tho for some free tarmac! Any hiden spots I should know about?

Another GTI I'll look out for in carpark 20, there were a good 5 or 6 of them last year I think..

Hope they've redone the car park, the amount of times I dragged half my car along that thing was a joke..

Few updates!

I decided to give in to the red trim....



Think for about £3 it looks awesome and is a neat little trick.

I also, after weeks of searching on here, pistonheads and ebay found a set of Rx11s. Managed to get all four, two tyres and the guy to deliver them for £100! The price does reflect the condition though lol.



Those are the good two lol, the others had black lips. Made a start though attacked them with some wet and dry and they are already starting to look better! They are now all silver again anyway. I did manage to shear a few of the bolts though, so cant do a lot more yet not really sure what to do about that yet...

Anyway thats all for now!

get a local engineering firm to drill the bolts out for you - they are titanium, so arent easily drilled out unless you know what you doing. Also, if you are in need of some new ones, PM me and I can supply Got plenty of genuine ones available.

Yea bargin! Just need to put some work in now...

As for the bolts, that would be very useful as i have no idea where to get them from. I still have a wheel left to split, so not sure how many i will need yet, but i will deffinatly be in contact when i get that far.

Yo!

Its been a good start to the year for my polo! Finally managed to get my wheels apart, after weeks of trying. Still having a prob getting the bolts drilled out, but at least i can start sanding etc now



Also Ive got another red stripe thing after my first fell off or got stolen and a brand new set of taylored mats. And most importantly just ordered a BMC CDA!!! Looked through the DIY guide and all seems simple enough. Just a bit confused when it comes to this crank case breather, does the kit come with this? And is this the bit that makes it road legal?

The breather filter 9 times out of 10 does NOT come with the kit. You can get them from eBay or halfords though, not much at all.
