golf mk3 gti 2litre 8v engine swap

Post by Lee-Dub »

Do we think this is possible for a mk4 polo? The golf engine looks quite big for a polo 6n bay, has anyone done this before? Any advice much appreciated.

Should be ok seeing 1.8T's get chucked in with a good squeeze! If you can manage and it's cheap enough then go for it. If you can find a decent 1.8T then that'll be a better donor.

Vr6 has been done also, so space wise you should be OK with ALOT of relocating of things. Will be a mammoth task though.

Yes, after much research it seems fitting a vr6 is actually easier than mk3 golf gti engine in a polo bay, far too much cutting and welding involved! that's that idea on the scrapper! However, does anybody know if the wiring for a mk4 16v is very different from an 8v? I presume they must be similar, but are they indentical? Links to a thread for someone who has already done this would be nice!

The thing is, by the time you've gone to the effort of going GTi engine, you might as well of gone 1.8T and probably have a quicker and more desireable car :)
