Hello.... and a question about brakes!

Post by wackojackso »

Hello everyone, i'm new to the forum but not new to VW's, so firstly a bit of background.

My first car was a 1993 Polo Coupe 1.0 Genesis, which my Dad gave me, he orignally picked it up with 24K on the clock and between us we took her up to a 112K and was still going strong when i sold her. Was a very well looked after car and had everything it needed, alot of money spent over the years. Since then i have moved on and bought a black, 2001 3door Polo GTI, which i absoloutly love. Since i got her i've been slowly bringing her up to scratch, just bringing it up to factory spec (ie no modifications). This has included a full service, replacement exhaust, and lots of other nigley things that were either broken or missing.

Having reached this point im am now looking at things that still need work but that I can incorperate upgrades to. This has brought me to the wheels and brakes. Now dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with the wheels they could just do with a freshen up and some of the split rim bolts replacing. I also wan't to replace the discs and pads and repaint the calipers which isnt a problem, however i was thinking of upgrading the brake lines at the same time.

Now before anyway starts ive searched the forum and done alot of reading but was unable to find a definative answer.

So my question is: Is there a kit available that replaces all 6 of the hoses or not?

So far i have seen this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 2759.l1259 which looks as though it would do the job.

Thanks in advanced for your help guys,

Martin

Welcome to the site mate!

Braided hoses have been a bit of a grey area. I've never heard of a full kit confirmed. Just reports of fronts fitting, rears not IIRC. Not a particularly necessary mod if you ask me. Have you considered upgrading the front discs to 280mm?

Thanks mate

I have considered the upgrade but i dnt really have any problems with the breaking power, i was just concerned about the strength of the rubber hoses, and though that braided hoses would provide a slight improvement but more importantly eliminate the dreaded bubble in rubber hoses or a split.

A bit of an old thread now i no, but i've been doing some research. I am lead to believe that VW orginally supplied the 6n2 with 6 seperate flexi hoses, however they later modifed the rear brake pipe that sits on the suspension arm to include a braided hose that connects to rear caliper (i.e all one piece, all though it does not appear braided) this is also all you can buy now if you go to VW. This therefore leaves you with only needing a 4hose kit....i think! I have not yet tried this as i am still trying to confirm this.

However if you have the later type fitted the part numbers are:
  • Left - 6N0 611 763J
    Right - 6N0 611 764J
Also has anyone ever delt with KAM Racing as i have seen these Linky and was wondering what they are like to deal with??
