Anyone Fitted a GTI Steering wheel?

Post by mh »

Howdy

The wife is getting a 2000 Polo 1.4 SE (currently at dealers having faults fixed!)
and we would like to know if anyone has fitted a GTI Steering wheel with the existing Air Bag?
The original wheel is a bit thin and I think it would improve the interior experience
I've had a look (at photos) and it seems that the air bag module is the same on the SE as it is on the GTI.

Any advice on this would be great.

Cheers

If the airbag module is the same (wouldn't know tbh) then the wheel should be a straight swap. The steering wheels in the VAG parts bin are mostly interchangable, the Mk3 Golf/Passat 35i/Mk4 Polo all use the same steering wheel, hub and airbag, for instance.

My dealership had told me that it was possible to do only the labour charges would be expensive due to.... something to do with airbag rings or.... can't quite remember. Asked ages ago.

they are interchangeable.

Its a larf until it goes off in your face!

Air bags - they are a bit of a mare. What if you are picking your nose or have you arm across the wheel when it decides to inflate.

Ouch.
