P.S - Cambelt & Tensioners & Water-pump were changed (GSF-sourced kit) at around 93K miles. Its now just hit 100K.
Query..
Query..
Sometimes when I try to accelerate, it seems like there's no power. Other times, it accelerates abit then restricts itself. Usually, to remedy this i would just decrease and increase the pressure on the pedal and it would go away for a second or two. Flooring it usually helps. Other times, it drives like a beauty. Ideas?

Re: Query..
If its random and intermittent i'd say electrical related: as above ht leads, spark plugs, coilpack..
Re: Query..
If your throttle body hasnt been cleaned in a while it might be worth doing that before buying new parts
Re: Query..
Funny thing is, I replaced the throttle body awhile back and it didnt really fix the problem. I got some contact cleaner and sprayed the inside of my HT leads, and that didnt help either. I'm pretty sure all four produce a spark, as its not misfiring, it just thinks its got the equivalent power of a 1.0 polo :p (and other times, it behaves like a gti)
Should also mention, full service (bar cleaning of BMC) was done by myself using genuine vag parts when it was around 98K. (Its just gone over 100K) So its not the spark plugs. I'm thinking the wiring for the throttle body is screwing up somewhere, causing the throttle body not to get enough air? Without enough air, not enough power, thus 1.0litre epicness! (It will accelerate, just not as fast. Sometimes i'll be driving, and it'll suddenly burst into life and start accelerating even though i havent increased the pressure on the pedal, so amount of petrol isnt a factor I guess?)
This all happened awhile back if some people may remember, when driving on a dual-carriageway, and having all my coolant leak out and the engine shutting down / going into limp mode? (Its no longer in limp mode, and I'll need to vagcom it tomorow and get the errors that are up)

Re: Query..
Could be a faulty cam position sensor - get it on vagcom to diagnose
Re: Query..
OK OK. WHAT. THE. f**k. F'ING GERMAN MONKEYS ARGGGH...
Basically, in order to fix the above-mentioned problem:
1. Star the car as you normally would.
2. Leave the car running, and whip out the following: Some golden virginia tabacco, rizzlers and filters.
3. Proceed to roll a cigarette, taking your time to ensure a perfect rollie.
4. Roll down the window. (Press the damn electric window button)
5. Drive
I've done this like 8 times without fail. Whenever I drive the car straight away, it downgrades to a 1.0litre. If I give it a few minutes (i.e. roll a rollie),
then it drives like a dream*
Now onto the second issue, I got a LUK clutch set about.. a year ago? I dont even think a year ago, and EITHER.. the clutch is slipping, or.. I havent got a clue. Its exhibiting clutch-slipping symptoms. (Engine free revs like a b***h, but speed isnt going up like a b***h) But.. its kept under control. I.e, if i drive sensibly, its going fine. (Albeit faster?) but.. if I give it some welly, revs fly off, but.. so does the speed. Can someone explain. Seriously, I'm more or less thinking my gti is a women, because its frikkin playing mind games with me now.

Re: Query..
Also; its not an issue I'd want to fix, because its giving me some fun right now. Also, the car hasnt been on the road for that majority of the 'year' since the LUK clutch was fitted. Im just wondering what it could be

Re: Query..
Replace the coolant temperature sensor, and check the wiring to the pre cat lambda sensor located on the manifold as it comes out the front of the engine.
If the wiring is OK, then you'll need a new lambda sensor (about £110)
I strongly recommend you use genuine VW parts.

Re: Query..
When you say so does the speed - can you be clearer?Trunkz wrote:

Its quite possible the clutch is slipping if its been fitted incorrectly or isn't specifically correct for your model.
Re: Query..
1. I'll get a coolant sensor off TPS tomorow.
2. Brand new bosch lambda sensor bought from TPS about.. two months ago. Im running with no-cat btw.
3. Regarding the clutch, im thinking its either not been fitted correctly or the incorrect one, as GSF had issues sourcing the correct one initially for my AVY engine.
3. In terms of 'the speed' as soon as I ease up on the accelerator pedal, the car catches up with me in terms of speed. (sudden burst of speed as i let up on the gas pedal) That make any better sense? I'm more or less convinced the clutch is slipping.. just wondering why, as its barely done.. 6000 miles.

Re: Query..
Thats probably your issue then. If your running a decat, your likely to get lambda errors
Check the wiring in any case

Re: Query..
What am I looking out for on the wiring, and I take it its the wiring from the termination point on the side of the pre-cat wiring, to wherever the hell it goes. (ECU?) I've ran de-cat for over a year, and the only problem that I've had is the MIL coming on. The car acting up with these various problems only manifested themselves when all the coolant decided to gush out of the car on the motorway
I used to have one of those mini-filters on the crankcase breather pipe, but that fell off awhile ago. I remember looking down the pipe earlier this afternoon, and it was had dirt / grease / oil down it. This a big no-no?

Re: Query..
Little update. Ended up forking out for a SACHS clutch, and a few seals in the gearbox side of things, and now its a beauty. I still have to let the car idle on startup for 30seconds, but it now behaves like a GTI, and thats the most important thing
