Yeah, I need to remind myself sometimes that quality time with the family is more important than the car

Can't wait to hear how she drives!

Cheers.
Not long till i can hear the noise.

And re quality time I know what you mean as I also get carried away sometimes.

I'm sure our two week break in the sun will build up some brownie points lol

Small update for you all.

Intercooler upgrade has been completed. Collect car tomorrow.

I believe the figures are 315 BHP and 308 torque

With the forge cooler I was seeing 10psi drop from turbo output to inlet manifold. With the new setup just 3psi.

He is a link to Bills (Badger5) small write up with some pics of new cooler and pipe work.

The new cooler looks the business! I'm guessing these kits will now be available for the rest of our cars? Also would this cooler be okay to run on a stage 1 polo? Any guesses how much it would cost?

A mate of mine with a hybrid k03 will be getting this kit for his shortly which will be the same pipe work as the k03s. Once this has been done I will be able to sort out kits if anyone is interested?

To fit this cooler you will have to relocate the battery to the boot.

Will get cost soon but it will be in the region of £500-£600

When I pick up the car later today I will find out if it is overkill for a k03s stage 1 or 2

Thanks :) your very good to all of us on here aha. This sounds good! I do intend on going to stage 3 so I don't want to have to buy the forge one then have to upgrade again, but I would not do a hybrid turbo, I'd get a new one but I'm guessing it'll be a 'simple' case of just changing the end pipes going to the turbo?

verry good job there mate! looks stunning!

as for installing this on stock turbo, i'ts do-able but i think it will produce to much lag.
K03s is a pretty small turbo and it will struggle to boost it up.
what turbo do you have, IHI VF22 or VF34?

I'm afraid I'm new to modding and don't understand too much... I know the basic principle of most things but how will having a bigger intercooler creat lag? Apart from allowing more cold aid in the engine how does it affect lag.
Also I've not decided on a turbo yet, I've not looking into them yet as I don't understand the pros and cons of each turbo. I have been talking to my local tuner who did my remap and they have been playing with a new turbo which is made of lightened internals so it spools up quicker but I'm sorry I don't know the name of it or anything.

i will explane as good as i can, as englisch is not my best language :p

the reason you will have turbolag with a bigger intercooler is simply because it has more volume.
a smaller turbo will move a smaller amount of air mass, a bigger turbo will move more.
so if you put a big intercooler on a small turbo, it will take more time for it to fill the volume with air,
the time it needs to fill it up is the reason you will have more turbolag.
the air will be cool, yes, but it's is far from the optimal solution.

same problem when you put a big turbo on a small intercooler,
you will have less lag, but the intercooler will be to small to cool the amount of air the turbo is forcing true it.
tht way you will have heatsoak. so also again, far from best solution.

the art of tuning is to find a perfect balance of all the things that work in harmony.
tuning is easy, good tuning is difficult and consumes alot of time.
not alone with the turbo and IC, but with all the parts...

ps: the turbo youre tuner is making is probably an existing turbo, but they are putting in another compressor wheel etc...
so it becomes a hybrid turbo wich is more efficient.
can you tell me what turbo they are working on? allways intresting to know

hope it helps

Ok I think it's time I updated you all as I haven got over what started to be a great day and turnt horribly wrong.

So I picked the car up yesterday and was very happy with the work from Bill @ Badger5.

So after a bit of a chat it was time to leave and enjoy the car.

With a shell petrol station nearby it was a quick drive to fill her up with some V-Power then get out on the open road.

Now I must say 315bhp and 301torque In the polo was serious. With the diff working hard enough to make the car snake up the road in third gear i had to make sure I gripped the steering wheel like I was holding a briefcase fully of money.

After a few good sprints down the motorway and just over a 100 miles from Badger5 all the excitement had got to me and it was time to take a much needed p*** stop.

With that out the way and some laughing and joking with a mate about how great the car was performing it was on to the slip road to finish the journey home.
1st quickly became 2 then 3rd to about 7500 then it all went wrong. NO BOOST :-(
After pulling over to the hard shoulder and a check under the bonnet nothing jumped out at me so I dreaded the worst. TURBO PROBLEM.

with the car back home and a bad back I have so far only managed to remove a few pipes to find some oil in the boost pipe out of the turbo and a seized shaft. So once my back is better I shall get the turbo off and see what's going on. Although a good friend has the day off tomorrow so said he may be able to come to the garage and remove the turbo for me.

So yet again the car is off the road and sitting in the garage. :-( sad times.

I'm sure it wont be either but that's life when modifying cars.

Got the turbo off someone on edition 38. CR Turbos just fitted a bigger comp wheel which I don't believe has anything to do with the turbo going wrong. I believe its to do with the bearings but will have to get the turbo off and inspect it before I point any fingers.
