exaust worries

Post by deadcat »

The back of my exaust dropped off the hangers the other day, Is it right that they are just held on two tiny hangers at the back where the rubbers fit?

if the saloon is the same fitting as the coupe and hatch then theres 2 hangers and 2 undernurished looking rubbers holding it on, mine rattles on the lump thing inbetween the two hangers when i set off.

it's not the rubbers i am worried about. they look fine.
the hangers look a little bit too shallow. There seems to be only enough room for the rubbers themselves so if the rubbers move at all, they fall off!

Yes the standard mounts are very poor.

I had always had problems with exhausts jumping off the rubbers until I had my new system made up.

So had an extra mount put on my exhaust which has a wide saddle and rubber then the other is a stronger hook welded on with a better rubber. With those the exhaust was as sturdy and stable as you could ever wish for. You can grab hold of it and push it, but it doesnt budge. Not going anywhere.

Should be able to offer these to people.

yep, its crap..... i think the garage i went to might have bent the mounts a little to get the rubbers to stay in place so it's never fallen off without there being a problem. but when the rubbers finally perished (well, one broke, the other probably fell off) it was a total pain to get the new ones to fit and they dont seem to have much movement. either they're too small (the largest size halfords had.....) or the things have been altered. either that or they're just crap and dont allow hardly any movement in the first place (in which case, why not just weld/bolt it?)
