It's early days for me, only having done under 3k, but another happy owner here. I came from a slightly more powerful car (207 Gti) and whilst I'm still retraining myself how to drive after the pug, it's great fun.
I'm logging my fuel in an app on my phone and I'm averaging about 43mpg. It would be higher (I usually register 50mpg on the trip by the time I get to work) but when my hubbie gets hold of it..! I know real world mpg is always less than they advertise due to the way they skew the tests, but this is worse by some margin than the last two cars I've had (35mpg v 42 claimed and 45 v 47ish in a little Clio).

The tyres for me won't be much cheaper than the 207 as they are the same size, and it'll be interesting to see how they wear given people on here are getting way better wear out of them than I did in the Bridgestones, avons I had on the previous car. I will look forward to a £20 car tax renewal letter though!

I really love mine.
I have had it for 5½ month now and done 13.500 km (8.400 miles) in it so far... Really really great car.
And I love mine too. Nearly 6 months and 11.000 km. I go nowhere near the advertised MPG either, but I just don't care. It is too much of a pleasure to drive :)
I'm with the same opinion. Mileage is not good but the car is great.

Anyone has tested if the start and stop helps in real life to save petrol....

in addition to the Blue GT i also have a Mk5 GTI Pirelli and Mk6 Ed35 parked on the driveway, all be it they are all manuals so can give some comparison

i actually love the Blue GT as in terms of fuel it is about half the cost of the GTIs and factor in tax, tyres etc its win win as this is the daily driver and will do about 20k a year, my wife love's it and somedays there is a fight for it

the size is great for city driving and urban life and i have to say the manual gear change is way better in feel than the golfs, its not got the out right ability but is fun to drive and engine loosens up with age so it responds better to revs, also it is a rare car and looks superb

you sit a bit higher up but i've taken it on the continent and racked up 500 miles in a day

I have had my manual transmission BlueGT for 9 months now and covered 9000 miles.

I traded down from mk6 GTI and in terms of running costs I am very pleased at avg 48 mpg. It doesn't feel as agile as the GTI nor as fast. But nevertheless it is a great car and the balance between economy and performance make it worth the money in my opinion.

NickW,

I have the Polo blue GT in DSG. I have driven the manual version too. Whilst i prefer the DSG for its comfort and performance I have been having issues with it.

The DSG in D mode - certain gear changes are clunky and jolt the car forward. This bugs the hell out of me it happens on average twice in every 10-15 min drive. ( i have driven the golf Mk 6 and 7 GTI DSG and it is poles apart, of course it is!)
The 2 cylinder mode -there is a fault with mine. Became just how apparent when I drove another manual version which was super quiet. I have had mine looked at and while no fault came back from diagnostics by VW it still happens at the most random times. To the point when people in the car are asking what is that noise? Its an unpleasant noise that sounds like the whole engine is rattling. The instance it goes from 2 cylinder back to 4 it comes to a noisy end and then it is fine. It rattles when under light throttle in 2 cylinder mode. I also notice the mpg drops when it is rattling like crazy. Its done it today and doing my head in so back to VW. Its so annoying as some days it is absolutely fine, in the exact same driving conditions.

So if you have gone for it i hope you don't get a dud like mine!i am not getting the performance, or economy that i expected. So not a keeper for me. Next time i will go for a golf! with no ACT!
i will push for this error to be fixed, it has been speculated that it may be a combo of the DSG and 2 cylinder mode in conjunction together going wrong somewhere.
also not just polos affected as found this :

best of luck!

Currently on 5100 miles and first service due in March. Car runs well but when cold can be noisy on 2 cyl mode. I have started using branded fuel rather than supermarket and in my opinion this has helped a bit in making 2 cyl mode run smoother. Things fitted since purchase are alloy pedals, rcd510 dab, mfsw upgrade, underbonnet sound proofing, Phillips upgraded headlight bulbs, interior LEDs, rear number plate LEDs, winter 16" wheels and tyres 215/45 16 Pirelli Sotto Zero. Mpg figures have remained around the late forties and low fifties on a daily commute of 12 miles mixed A and B roads with one dual carriageway. Not as good as advertised but okay given that I am not driving for economy, just driving in a usual manner to the speed limits. I have also added a Bluetooth adaptor to the mdi in 30 pin iPod lead so that I can stream music from my iphone 5s without plugging in. This has been a good purchase at sixty pounds from Amazon and all control is done through the Rcd510 head unit as if the iPod/iphone was physically connected. Item is called Tune 2 Air if anyone is interested in researching this.

Also, Blue Silk touch up paint is available from VW dealers at around £6.20. I have recently purchased one due to the standard car park scuffs that some folk like to inflict on other peoples cars, plus the delight of stone chips that now seem unavoidable no matter how or where you drive!

Phil,
Tune2air looks like something I could do with.. A couple of questions, if you know?

The reviews on amazon hint it starts playing music from the iPod interface as soon as it's connected. Is that the case?

Secondly do you know if it will pair to two devices?

I'd like to be able to listen to my audible books on my phone but music from an iPod touch..

Ok a third question! I assume any navigation commands from say google maps/apple maps still override what's playing on the music?

This seems a cheaper option for me with the standard stereo and bury kit..

In my experience, Tune2Air can link to the Polo Bluetooth Bury car kit and the mdi at the same time. It does not instantly play unless you are on mdi aux in on the head unit and it does display track names and detail from the iphone. I don't know the answers to your other questions but I hope that my findings have been of some help.

Hi all,

First time poster yada yada!

I was looking at the BlueGT this weekend, typically our local dealer has none in stock and none on the way...anyhow, my main query relates to the audio in the Polo - unlike the more expensive Audi A1, there are no audio upgrades from factory on the Polo which is a shame.

Having been impressed with the sound quality in my wife's new Volvo V40 with standard audio, how do people find the standard setup in the BlueGT?

If I jump ship to the Polo, I'm going from an owned-since-new 2002 Astra MK4 with a very nicely spec'd Kenwood setup with amp/sub, and I do like my music to sound nice (not fussed on volume, just quality).

I also believe there's a new 2014 version due out to order from April, I think I'd hold out as it does seem to have a few extra bits (like removal of the funny stand-up phone connection thing on the dash?!).

Cheers for any reply.

The speakers in the BlueGT is actually very good with a nice clear sound. :)

Does anyone know who supplies the audio for the Polo? Google suggests LG but I'm not 100% - I'm taking it there is no difference in audio quality between the standard head unit and the more expensive upgrades?
