Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
Ok. I can provide part numbers for anything missing
Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
Starting to panic now!
Am I splitting it where my screwdriver is?
The cover before it has come back, and a ball bearing has dropped out! I have it though.

Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
Yes you are
That’s a bearing from the inner CV joint. It’s possible the cage is damaged and not holding the bearings any more . You might need a new one!

Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
These are all the bits. They look in good condition. The thread on the bolt looks OK too. Will split the cv joint now. Hope to rebuild it as there doesn't look like any damage to it

Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
I’ll check the parts system and pop the diagram up for you in the morning
Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
OK, thanks. Any idea how to split it without a puller? Should it split here on the inside?

Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
Where’s all the bearings gone?
Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
Once one fell out, they all did. Was hoping to rebuild it

Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
Oh wait. No, not a puller. Just put a screwdriver on the outer lip and pry it apart in your previous photo
Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
Sorted it. However, I only have 5 out of 6 ball bearings. I'm quite sure I caught them all. What are the chances of the car running on 5 bearings and going through the last mot OK.

Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
You need all 6. The joint will blow up without all the balls in
Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
Aaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhhh!
Updated.....
I have all 6 ball bearings
I've tried rebuilding it. I have got 5 in, but I can't get the 6th in.
I need that special tool for getting the hub nut off. What is it called, and can I get it from eurocarparts?
If I give up on the cv joint, do I buy new? If so, are they easy to fit?

Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
I'm sort of getting somewhere. I have a used driveshaft on order for tomorrow.
In the mean time, I have fitted the new seal, but I can't get the output shaft bolted back in with the spring, washer, collar and retaining ring on.
If I take them all off, it slides in, and allows me to turn the bolt approximately 4 full turns.
Is everything in the photos meant to be there? Is it all fitted the right way? I've fitted it the way it came off, but it could have been fitted wrong previously?!?!?!

Re: Gearbox/driveshaft oil seal questions
The order looks correct. As the bolt tightens down it compresses the spring. It’s normally quite hard to tighten up and has to be counter held with two driveshaft nuts in place with a bar due to the tension
