Passanger Rear Caliper Seized - help buying new one

Post by ad_182_uk »

Hello,

My 56 plate 9N3 Polo gti's passanger side rear caliper has seized and i need a new one. There seems to be either a 34mm or 38mm piston option? Can somebody link me to / advise the correct type? I understand it may not be painted red if not bought at VW's prices but that is fine i can paint it myself.

seems it could be something to do with a PR number as well? Are the 9n3 GTi's all PR 1KV ?

The PR is 1KV and the part number for the GTI left hand side rear caliper is 6Q0615423B. The non-red has PR 1KK. I'm not sure they are interchangeable.

I'm not sure where/why/when the piston diameter changed, so with a car at this age, why not get both sides refurbished instead of buying maybe a wrong one and having to replace the other side soon?

i just had new discs and pads at the rear and there was no issue with the drivers side caliper so no need to replace / refurb. Just need a replacement passanger side as there only about £40-50. I'm a 56 plate...

After contacting VW they only have 1 part number for the 9n3 GTI and it was 6Q0615423B at £190

So i went on the usual well known online auction site and found a 6Q0615423A for £32

My assumption being the 'B' part indicates the red colour.

Having looked at images and specs elsewhere im pretty certain i have the right part (all be it in silver not red, but i can sort that)

so it was 34mm piston not 38mm.

hopefully this proves useful to people in the future.

Are you sure that the "A" and "B" are not LHS and RHS - just a thought, unless you know otherwise.

Left hand side parts usually have uneven numbers while the right hand side parts usually have the even numbers. A/B/C can indicate a different variety (colour, size, position, shape or newer/more luxurious version).
