VW Polo 2019 rear wheels housing

Post by rdamjan »

Hello. I bought a new Polo (1.0 TSI) and today this has come to my eyes. Protection around the rear wheels. Why is not the same on both sides? On the right side is just little space (for snow:P).

Cheers

Probably poor installation at the factory. If you’re concerned about it, you could loosen off the fixing screws under the wheel arch and it should be possible to move the wheel arch liner a few mm’s to close the gap - the liners are a type of fibrous carpet material so should be fairly flexible and easy to move and bend into position. The nearside front plastic wheel arch liner on my previous generation Polo was poorly fitted when the car was built. 5-10 minutes to slacken off the screws move the liner into the correct position and tighten the screws back up, and it was perfectly fitted!

Is that a stone chip you’ve got on the edge of your wheel arch? Although it’s on the plastic section of the rear wheel arch (front edge of the plastic bumper section) so the exposed area won’t corrode, my OCD would mean I’d have to get some touch up paint and paint it in 🙂.

It looks like its bumped original, but why is that? On the edge is just dust, car is just few days old:)

If it’s the vertical bump in the wheel arch liner in your picture just to the right of the fixing screws that you’re querying, it’s the same as the wheel arch liner at the link below that’s for sale, so I’d say it’s normal.

It might be that shape to create a space between the metal wheel arch and the wheel arch liner to accommodate the small drain pipe that runs from just below the fuel filler cap (you should be able to see a small drain hole just below the fuel cap when you open the fuel filler flap - the drain pipe is connected to the underside of this drain hole). That could explain why the rear R/H arch liner is different to the L/H one.
