I noted one major omission from replies to the original post... the cup holder :-) PugBrothers did you get your cup holder unstuck and do you have somewhere to put your coffee in the morning?

I bloody did mate - all about pressing that tiny white button at the base of the front and using a butter knife to gently pry the bugger out.

Best part of it all is that I no longer have to employ a butler to hold my coffee instead, so I’ve saved thousands!

:D

The butter knife is the key to it, I made my first mistake using a steak knife lol

I had to do the same so wanted to check if you had got this issue solved as I could help with it at least! When I got my key operated Polo from the dealer I enquired about the remote central locking being retrofitted but the dealer no longer offered this as they had so many problems afterwards with reliability.

How did you get on?

It was surprisingly easy sorting the remote central locking. The hardest bit like anyone in the other threads say is getting the original module out of its cradle. You’ve got to contort the hell out of yourself to pull it out, but that’s by far the most taxing part. You just get the correct comfort module for the 9N3 (for me it was 6Q0959433E - and make sure the car it formerly belonged to has the same number of doors as your car and the number starting with H to the right of the model number on the module matches what you have on your current module - mine was H02/S0002).

Once you’ve got that sorted, fit it in, get the correct remote key (1J0 959 753 AH) cost ten pounds from eBay but you can get it cut for another fiver by providing a photo of your current key and put the transponder from your spare key into the remote key. Pair it up (some good guides on YouTube!) and you’ll be good to go.

If I can do it, anyone can. Trust me.

Thanks PugBrothers!

I may give it a go, however, now the car is 13 years old and I have lived with it for 8 years it hardly seems worth it lol I appreciated the feedback and information :D though!

I can’t blame you for not trying - if it ain’t broke and so on! I’ve had car for just under a year so I could justify giving it a go. If you ever do attempt it just give me a shout :)

Do you have much trouble finding spare parts for yours? I still don’t think I’ve found a reliable place to get spares from. In dire need of some jacking point covers and they’re absolute gold dust on the Internet. Same goes for my front splitter. It’s got a small crack in it so I wouldn’t mind swapping it out, but because mines a Bluemotion they’re the rarest car part on earth apparently. Unless I’ve been properly missing something.

Thanks, I may just do that :-)

Other than ebay I am in the Glasgow area and there are scrapyards a plenty so I can get most bits from a local place, however, touch wood I tend not to have too many issues although I have a bit of a headache at the moment with the central locking and windows  Instead of visiting and wasting time just call them to inquire what 'stock' they have. Some of them are self service or others they get the bits for you.

I find GSF ad Euro Carparts are good for bits and pieces too. I had to replace the blower motor resistor pack recently and got a reasonably priced replacement from GSF.

My father in-laws neighbour has the same Bluemotion Polo as yourself so next time I am visiting I can pop off the jacking point covers for you... lol :-) Obviously I am joking should the law be reading this thread! You will be able to get them from the VW dealer I am sure although they will need priming and painting. I buy some bits form the dealer too as they are quite cheap for certain things and the parts guy is quite helpful when I call. I buy my oil from them for servicing, I get 5L of Quantum Longlife 3 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil which is VW504/507 spec for £20! I recently bought a 20L container and it worked out at £17 per 5L.

That’s a brilliant price on the oil mate - and that’s direct from VW? That’s got to be first story ever of something being cheaper from a VW garage. I might grab myself some of that next month.

Once the weather improves in Wales (in a hundred years or so when global warming properly kicks in) I might visit a few scrapyards and see what I can find. Definitely not having much luck on eBay.

If you did want to steal those jacking point covers, I’ll post your bail money and take the blame with your in laws if you like. I’ll see if VW spares are talking to people since the covid restrictions have started easing. Cheers for the info!

Yes, in Scotland the main dealer networks are mainly from the Arnold Clark group and it was my local VW franchise I went too. You may have to be cheeky and when they quote the price if its higher than expected you can ask if its the best the can offer in this instance! There is no harm in asking. The price does go up and down sometimes I have paid £25 but its always been cheaper than what I use to buy (Castrol Edge these are 4L bottles and around £30 was the cheapest I could get it for) and its what the dealer fits.

Some things are more though like the oil filter which is normally £13 odd quid so I can get a Mann or Bosch filter from GSF/Eurocarparts for half the price when they have one of their discount codes running. I guess the jacking point caps will be £15-£30 or something ridiculous like that and you need to paint them but I guess its a 'specialist' part and if it completes the look of your car worth every penny. if you need a hand to find the colour code for you car let me know and this will be helpful when buying the spray paint.

On second thoughts the neighbour is a big lad so I won't take the risk! lol
