Also have a kufatec loom for rain & light sensors but I think it is wrong but can be made to work.

Also discovered I might have bought the wrong rear view mirror or I am missing another bracket from the windscreen. (Van has no back window in tailgate). I removed the cap from the existing mirror bracket on the windscreen but it seems something is amiss.

Because you want to update the auto dimming mirror, I imagine you want to install the auto lights in addition to the bixenon headlights.
My recommendation is that you follow the scheme for H4 for the manufacture of the wiring:

Automatic lights means having the rain light sensor installed, which is installed in conjunction with the automatic dimming mirror.

There are two ways to install the new auto dimming mirror (+RLS):
- Or you can change the windshield with the appropriate retaining plate for the new mirror.
- Or you install the retaining plate on your current windshield.

The first thing you should do right now is this:

You do the process for the first remote control, entering the value 0, and then you do the same process for the second remote control, also entering the value 0, and so on with all the remote controls you have.

Once done, make a new autoscan, regardless of the units you have currently uninstalled.

You can now get rid of BCM 087 if it is your wish.

There are more things to comment, because your new BCM Max (second hand) comes from a vehicle with Start/Stop (7L6), and your T5 is without Start/Stop (7L3), but we will solve this later.

I think when it comes to the auto lights, I will just run all the wiring ready to plug in at a later date. Would this be possible? I might change the windscreen for a heated T6 screen with correct sensors at a later date but that's another story..

Perfect, everything has changed noticeably even if it doesn't seem like it.
Logically there are many faults due to having some parts/units uninstalled.
These faults will disappear as what is uninstalled is installed.
New faults will also appear when a new BCM coding is done (this will be fixed later).

The donor car's BCM 090D had a Bluemotion system, which means it had a Battery Monitoring Control Module (61).



Module 61 can be removed from the installation list with the following procedure:

1- Go to Gateway 19, installation list, enable 61 (again).
2- Go to Battery monitoring 61 (now enabled), codify to 000000.
3- Come back to Gateway 19, installation list, disable 61.
4- Go to autoscan, click on GW installation list (not on Start), wait the result, clear all DTCs, wait the result ...
Module 61 must have disappeared from the installation list.
5- Check with a new Autoscan (Start button).

It is possible, but it is to duplicate the work on the connectors, especially on the T17 light switch connector. Better to get rid of this T17 connector now.

I recommend that you install the mirror and rain light sensor now, along with wiring for auto lights.
This is what is proposed in the diagrams for a T5 with xenon headlights.

Hi folks, hope you have had a good weekend.

Many thanks for the above information and guidance, I will get more bcm coding done once it is safe enough to reconnect the battery. I will order the correct windscreen mount and mirror parts and get all the parts ready for a proper install.

Today's progress, one step forward two steps back kind of day!

Discovered that the laser tools pin extractor is rubbish! I spent a good part of the day messing about with them. The tool pins are just too soft and thin they just wont push the release pins down enough. I cant even remove fuse terminals (I slid the purple cage to the side as much as it would go) so I am on the lookout for a new set of tools.

Cut off the T17 switch plug,

Fitted 10 pin connector to the original T17 wiring. (if I have to remove this I will be in trouble as I tried to take a pin out but the tool just wont work).

Started to make the loom for auto lights and after many hours of fiddling and had crimped the JPT's to the wires I found that I have the wrong plugs/pins for the coupling. Completely my fault and will set me back waiting on more parts. We live and learn...
What i have is vw 10 pin connector 191972725 which is currently fitted with original t17 terminals clicked in. 191972735 is the end that takes the male terminals which I thought should be male JPT 2.8 but I cant get them to click in to this. It looks like it is meant for some other terminal type. Must be similar to JPT but with the pin offset slightly.

If I could ask a question to do with the loom please...

I have had one for over 7 years and it works perfectly.
In all technical manuals related to removing terminals, it is commented that some experience is needed to remove the terminals. Patience.

I am going to visit the car breakers yard this week and see if I can get some parts and will have a look for a couple of
those relay holders and cut some wiring for repair wires.

I might have a new windscreen sorted out.

Before I get going with the next part of my plan, I thought I would ask some questions and run it past you if thats ok...

1) Is there anything else you think is worth me doing while I have the van in bits?

Would it be feasible or desirable to run any other wires and further integrate this BCM with other systems?
eg. Could I run wires from the BCM to the rear lights (at the connection points under the seat), Any benefits to this?
I think I need to run a wire from BCM to reverse signal under the seat anyway so things like this wouldn't take long if it had any benefit? (I have factory fit trailer electrics in case this effects anything) (already has multi function steering wheel)

2) When I fit the ALWR loom, it requires connection to BCM T73 B18 & B19 (can high/low?). Could I run these to join at the points behind the instrument cluster where I Isolated the T32 wires when i fitted the twisted yellow black wires from the bcm? I think these are the same signal. Diagram 146/13. *Edit this is what I will do.

3) I need help with the wires in the original H4 halogen loom. (wiring diagram 183/7).
In the right headlamp loom i see that the Yellow cable goes from fuse SB27 to T10ap/6 (56b) low beam. And a white wire goes to T10ap/8 (56a) high beam, so- Yellow low beam, white high beam.

In the xenon wiring diagram (146/8) it is the same. - yellow low beam, white high beam.
(replicated on left side light but fuse SB5 and different colours).

If I was to isolate original SB27 and SB5 and run new wires direct from BCM to xenon T14/6 for low beam, is this going to effect anything else? Would I still need to add a signal to make low beam stay on when high beam is activated?
*Edit - I see that i will still need the high beam signal and will look to see if I can take it from E4 dip/flash switch T41/39

4) I am also going to isolate the original DRL fuses SC12 SC14 (and old T17/3) and reuse these locations for the +30 feed to the BCM T73B/3, T73B/5. (change to 30amp fuses) Then run new wires from bcm to drls.

The reason for 3 & 4 above is because the original loom has been damaged and modified by a previous owner/garage when they incorrectly fitted the xenons.

5) I am thinking of running another +30 feed from SA fuse box (6mm2). This would be so I have a point behind the relay carrier and BCM so I can easily add further additions in the future (dash camera,USB sockets etc). I would use the clip on fuse holder to fit into the relay cage and there is an earth point near by too. I would also utilise the spare +15 from T17 to have a further ready made +15 feed. (ALWR, rain sensor).
If I do this I can also use this new +30 fuse holder to feed the new Auto lights relay pin 3 (which would be next to it).

New terminal removal tools arrived and so far so good on the fuse box. It is fiddly but once you get the knack, its not so frustrating. Biggest problem was the pink locking device. Even though it has clicked out of the lock position it still needs levered a bit further while removing the terminal.

Thats me until next week as it is my sons birthday weekend.
Next job will be sort the new power input to the BCM and run all the cables through the bulkhead.

Hello reido80, we are progressing positively.

Once I have read everything you comment on in your two previous posts:

- The thickness of the wires is specified in all the diagrams, even in the diagrams I made for the T5 automatic lights. Look at them.
- Good luck with that new windshield.

- 1) Maybe you might be interested in installing an RVC (OEM). Adam87 did it on his T5. Look for Adam87 in the forum search.

- 2) It is a good idea, it is what I have always recommended for ALWR. Use a T2 connector to join these wires (not with splices, faults could occur).
This CAN line is called the 'powertrain CAN line'. (old and isolated IC CAN lines)
It is the most important CAN line, there are several CAN lines that fulfill different functions. In each of these CAN lines there are different groups of units, depending on the speed necessary for data transmission and other factors. If the information to be transmitted is 'little', a single wire called LIN is used. (sensors, etc)
They all end up in the GW to manage the information.

- 3) you can run the Low Beam wires directly from the BCM, it is specified in the original diagrams. No problem, BCM will manage these lights. Fuses are not required. (what I proposed is an easy adaptation, so that we understand each other).
You have to add the signal for High Beam as specified. It doesn't matter from where you take the signal from the wires for HB. But you must remember the point of taking for possible diagnoses in the future in case of lamp failures, etc ... It is best to follow the original diagrams.

- 4) No. T73b/3 and T73a/5 are the signal outputs for DRLs. DRLs activation is because you (or automatic lights) send the input signal to T73b/29 from the new Auto light switch. Run some new wires from the BCM to the headlights.
Note: maybe I didn't quite understand what you meant in your post.

OK, so I have done the majority of the wiring, and enabled xenon lights in BCM.

Still waiting on 646 relay for auto lights so this is currently missing. Also no RLS or ALWR plugged in.
Only Right hand headlamp wired in so far, The left will be fitted when I refit the bumper.

At the moment I have no DRL led function at all.

High beam works if I pull the stalk to flash but if I push the stalk forward nothing happens.
