Hidden menu on headunit

Post by Tex »

Hi,

I came across a video on a media unit from a golf that had a hidden menu when you hold the setup button, on my composition colour there isnt much, and if you keep holding it there is a futher hidden menu, but mine didnt have that...until now.

So Carista the OBD app had a update that allows the service screen to be active, so when i press and hold twice on the setup screen i got taken to the next hidden menu, and it was awesome. there is so many hidden features in there, i normaly code with carista because its easy, but now that i have this hidden menu i actually found out it supports some coding

I thought i needed VCDS for features like windscreen wipers in reverse, auto fold mirrors, auto rain sensor etc, but in this menu they actually have the code and you can actually change some of the code, like change some 0 to 1s, and it has a guide that shows what each byte will do if it changes to 1, there is also a option to enable all features, like driving school mode which i never new this unit could support, then other features that i know dont work but heated wheel, auto heat when entering the car, lane assist configure... the list is really endless, i have the comfort line so i dont have 90% of the options/hardware, but thought i could share for those that are retrofitting and want to activate some of the retrofits more easily through the headunit, im sure it works on the composition media as well.

I'm not certain, but I'd expect all that that green/service menu gives you is the ability to "add" items to the infotainment's menu, you always need to do that when adding new systems/functions to any VW Group car, functions that can be changed or switched only via the infotainment system.

For instance, I added front parking sensors to my S4 that had rear sensors, after adding in all the physical parts, wiring and changing or coding of existing controllers, I then had to add that new function into the infotainment system so that it could be altered or switched.

Edit:- anyone adding in or retro fitting new systems, would always need to also program these new controllers, so having access to that green/service menu would not be needed, as coding changes are required elsewhere using VCDS etc and it gives you direct access to adding in menu options.
