Keyless entry on GTI+

Post by PhilArnold »

Does anyone know how to get the keyless entry working on a GTI+?
I've checked the brochure and its standard fit so i know i have it, but I cannot for the life of me get it to work.

Automatically locking or unlocking doesn't work at all, pressing the button on the fob seems to be the only way. Once in the car keyless start works fine

Thanks in advance

It should just unlock as you put your hand around the door handle and should lock if you press the indentation on the outside of the door handle, I don’t think there is an Initial activation process, but maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong ... also try it with one key at a time keep one inside Your house and Vice versa

Oh i did not know that, i thought it would unlock as you got near it and then locked as you walked away from it?

Unfortunately not, you (or someone near the car as you approach) need to put your hand in the handle of one of the two front doors. Then it unlocks. Then you press the indent to lock it. If you want to disable it you lock it with the fob then press the indent within five seconds - you can only open it with the fob then.

..and if you place your hand on the inside of the door handle for a second time it opens all doors.

Thanks for the help guys, I've checked and it does work like that but man does it feel like a backwards step in technology
Mainly from a locking perspective, having to interact with something on the car before you walk away reminds me a bit of key operated central locking
Think i might just stick to clicking the buttons on the fob

You can also set it up to lock the car when the cars key fob is out of range and it will lock. Just go into settings in the info screen

Oh can you? I had a quick poke around in the settings and couldn't see anything, can you remember where it was?

Going into car settings and look for opening and locking. There is a setting for automatic locking turn that on and soon as your fob is out of range your car will lock ok.

If it didn’t require you to touch the sensor on the door handle, then if your car was parked up at home and you or your partner were just walking past the car (and not wanting to use it) with the key fob in your pocket or a bag, it could unlock when you don’t want it to.

IMO it’s not really too much a hardship to have to touch the handle to unlock via keyless - you have to make contact with the handle anyway when you open the door. As for locking - touching the sensor requires no more effort than checking the door handle on a non keyless car to make sure it’s locked - something I’ve always done.

Having said that, if my car had keyless, I’d probably use the key fob anyway.

It won’t unlock the car only lock the car you still need to put your hand on the handle or use your fob to open. It’s like it you sit in the car with your fob in your pocket and start the car and then open the door and walk away it will bring a message up on the screen loss of signal with fob

If you want your car to lock instantly on exit, you can have it coded in using your preferred coding device OBDeleven, vcds etc ...here is the code if anyone is interested.

Auto lock when exit (must have KESSY)

Adaptation
Control unit: B7 Access Startsystem Interface
Name: internal_passive_entry_exit_byte1
Values:
passive_exit_door_slam_lock:
Old value: Not activated
New value: activated

Long coding
Control unit: B7 Access Startsystem Interface
Values:
easy_close:
Old value: Not activated
New value: activated

It should work however I’ve not activated it as I’m fine with pressing the indentation on the handle.

That solution only seems practical if you're on your own in the car. If you get out the drivers side, close the car door and it locks, but then you have to open the back door to get the kids out, and have to unlock the car again to do so.

Hmmmm, didn't know this! I thought if you pressed the indent and then continued to hold the indent for another 2-3 seconds it does an additional flash which I thought disabled keyless. I might need to read my manual. :P

That’s a very good point I didn’t think of that, personally I’m ok with using the door handle to lock and unlock the car as I find it more convenient then pulling out the key from my pocket. Before ownership of my current polo I had a polo S tdi 9n for 8 Years and It was a physical key in the Door lock job, it didn’t even have a button fob, so this is a god send. :D
