Twin Headlight and Single Headlight System
Hi everyone,
My Polo has the single headlight system that uses the H4 bulbs. I thought the standard bulbs provided were absolutely terrible for night driving (I drive through a lot of country lanes) so I replaced them with Osram Nightbreaker Plus H4's as I read on one of the posts here that they were one of the best. I have definitely seen an improvement as a result but I'm still looking for something a bit brighter and has an even range and width on the beam without going for HIDs.
My question is how much of an improvement is the twin headlight system over the single system? Is it worth replacing the single headlight unit?
Thanks guys

It is a straight swap. plug on the back is the same and everything.
No coding required.

I understand this is an old topic, but requesting some clarification. When we switch from the single barrel headlight unit (which uses one H4 bulb for low and high beams) to the double/twin barrel headlight unit (two separate H7 bulbs for low and high beams), wouldn't that require extra couplers or adapters for the new bulbs? I understand that physically the headlight units are of identical dimensions with same mounting points onto the body, but the electrical connection to the bulbs have to be different right, between a single H4 vs twin H7 setup? I have a Polo hatchback as well as the Polo sedan (Vento as we call it here in India) which uses single barrel headlight units. Even with something like Osram Nightbreakers, the light ouput is still left wanting and the next possible upgrade other than HIDs are to use the twin bulb setup.
It would be quite helpful if someone could confirm whether the bulb connectors also are same between the two headlight units.
Kind Regards,
Avinash Menon

No, the internals just split the high and low connections for a single H4 bulb into two seperate H7 connections
Its literally a straight swap

Exactly like Alex says.
The wiring in the headlight is different.
A crued illustration of the internals of the H4 & H7 headlights.

I currently have H4 single barrel headlights with just one connector to the headlight, one for the parking light one for the turn indicator.
I have purchased the dual barrel headlights but the connectors it has is totally different
For referance I have attached the image of the needed connectors.

I see
You can order these from your local VW dealer. You'll need details from ETKA to get the plug part numbers and associated pins however
Ciclo on here may be able to assist you
