Hi S-94

Try this link for assistance:
viewtopic.php?f=71&t=75094&p=572202&hil ... er#p572202

They discuss removing a scratch from the steering wheel... also leather.

Goood luck!

@S_94; Looking at your pictures, it looks like a fairly minor scuff, so not worth spending lots of money on leather renovation products. I’d work a little old fashioned black or grey wax shoe polish or shoe cream into the scuff mark; as the leather’s grey, grey would probably be best.

I used black shoe polish (i didn’t have any grey) on a small scuff mark on the steering wheel in my previous car - applied it sparingly, worked it in to the scuff mark and left it a few minutes and then buffed it off. It disguised the scuff well enough not to bother my car OCD 😅.

If you don’t have any wax shoe polish / cream in the house, then it’s cheap to buy (around £2 - £3 for a 50 ml tin), so you’ve not spent a fortune if it doesn’t hide the scuff mark completely. However, if it works on scuffed leather shoes, then there’s no reason why it won’t work on the leather on a DSG shifter.

IMO applying it sparingly minimises the risk of changing the colour of the leather. If one application doesn’t work, then try additional applications. I’ve found when cleaning shoes that sometimes shoe polishes and creams can initially darken the leather, but when the polish / cream dries, the leather usually returns to its original colour. However, if the section with the scuff does end up a little darker than the other leather sections on the shifter, then you could also polish those to match the repaired section.

Thanks SRGTD! Will definitely give that a go and thank you for providing some links. I've managed to find some on Amazon. :)

Could I just use two Microfibre cloths (1 apply / 1 buff)?

If that fails I've found some replacement trims on Diversion Stores. There £36 so fingers crossed the £4 polish works!

Microfibre cloths should be fine.

Please let us know the outcome 🙂.

Shoe / Bag / Leather polish is a good shout. One of my old cars had red leather on the steering wheel (the fake pvc kind). Bought some red polish and went around the whole wheel. Came up trumps! :)

Sometimes though with something faint like that, even just a clean and condition with some Gliptone may be enough to hide it. But either way, good luck!

Unfortunately haven't had any success with the shoe wax. Gave it 4 coats but it hasn't really changed anything.

I'm a bit OCD when it comes to stuff like that so will go the replacement trim route.

Managed to find some on AliExpress for around £14. Just need to find out if they fit! https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3292208 ... 5176%23291

Sorry to hear the shoe wax didn’t work ☹️, but at around £4, it was worth a try.

Definitely worth a go thanks for the suggestion mate! :)

Good thing is it can be sorted, taking the trim off doesn't look too difficult. Will update when it's all done.

That red version looks pretty nice !
If it was a matt red rather than glossy, it would match quite nicely with the red stitching and dash inserts.

Replacement parts came in today. Not a bad job to swap them over (5-10 mins) just had to be really careful unclipping the side panel. In all fairness you wouldn't notice its been replaced. OCD is satisfied.
