stalling

Post by lord_sharpy »

mine occasionally does it when the petrol needle is between the red and white at the bottom of the guage. i thought it might be due to the petrol sloshing around the tank and allowing air bubbles to go through the injector system. ive got a new petrol filter to go on and i also put some injector cleaner through last time which seemed to work.

Mine cuts out all the time. Its a reet pain. Its usually when its cold if you dip the clutch it just dies. If you find out what it is let me know so I can see if its the same problem with my car.

Or I might remedy it with a G40  (I wish!)

Mine did that.

I used to get up in the morning, drive to the end of my road, dip the clutch to stop, and the engine would just die, or as you say, tick over very slowly and just manage not to stall (battery light would flicker though.)

It was a right ball ache, but I solved it by replacing the blue temp sender.

Mine does just the same.. I think a large part of it was that I had a knackered carb, so I've replaced that, but it still does it a bit, even if not quite so much.. would the dodgy temp sender have a similar effect on a carbed model, or is it more fuel injection that suffers from dodgy sensors?

I have reset the ecu (battery off for 30mins) and let it tick over for 20mins without revving the car...feels a bit better now and ticks over smoother...will let u know if it stalls soon though as im off to derbyshire to meet josh.

mmmmm, seeing as similar probs come and go, will have to try that BEFORE attempting to fit the new chip, just to see what happens..

hmmmmm I quite like the cold air getting into the engine, more air and all that. I just upped the idle point a little and it runs lovely. Might sort it out properly one day... Go look at the temp senders and all that.

'm just wondering if theres a point where you can disconnect the sender and nothing at all changes

what temperature does the ecu think it is with no signal? very hot, very cold, or "broken, go to safe mode"?

Theyre about £10 from volkswagen, cheaper from GSF; and more than likely made by the same company.

Beware of buying non-genuine ones, I have done it before and regretted it. Bought a black one from ecp once and it didnt work accurately. For the couple of pound you initially save, you might end up messing around and have to get a genuine one after all.
