2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
hi guys, my partners polo 1.4 tdi 2015 clutch is failing. The dual mass has been noisy since 40k miles getting gradually worse. Its on 50k now and needs replacing. Also when trying to get a clutch kit, they are not available from the local motor factors, which is unusual. Anyone else had this issue? Also seems quite early on to fail, most diesels i have had usually go to 80 100k miles before failure. After googling it seems to be a common fault. Thoughts?
Thanks steve

Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
Had the same problem. Started with an intermittent noise on idle, then a rough grinding noise when the engine started, then it became gradually worse.
The dual mass flywheel is no longer available from VW and they offer a single mass conversion kit instead.
There's an official document regarding this issue (TPI 2039968), I think they even mention that these DMF fail prematurely mostly because of start and stop.

Thanks for the reply, did you get vw to do it or someone else? Had a quote today and parts were 1k without fitting. I have read similar online and if they change the design surely its a design faultheftyshooly wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 8:54 pm Had the same problem. Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
Someone else, almost 1k (euros) all included. But they do have to go to VW for the software update to the ECU, which I'm still waiting for.
I don't recall how many labor hours were, but quite a few, so the parts alone were much less than that. The kit was offered by VW with a great discount and I read online that more people from other countries had the same "discount".

Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
not really, it also needs new driveshaft on one side and quite a few hours of labour.

Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
Why a new driveshaft?
Even all DMF kits with labor in private garage cost 650£ max.
1000 for SMF kit for VW Polo, hahahah s**t little car.
Thats the price for Mercedes w204 set. And you cant even compare little 1.4 tdi with 2.2 CDI
And they say Polo is a great car
Im sorry but this stinks like their issue in start with injectors, power steering pumps etc.
"discount" booom 1000£ for smf
€\£
Sorry i just cant justify the price of SMF being 1000 eur/gbp way too steep.

Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
Cheera for the replies, ordered parts from vw today, was 700 quid all in, what a rip off. Asked for a price for fitting came back with 1500, and told me its 5.5 hours labour. Works out at 145 an hour labour. Robbing t**ts.

Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
Yeah it's a rip off in just parts alone. Solid mass flywheel set 750 quid, c**t. DMF for 1.9 TDI/ 2.0 CR is around 300 gbp LUK/ Valeo/ Sasch etc.

Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
Well its 228 mm same as mk4 1.9 TDI.EdSilmon wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 5:49 pm https://www.oemvwshop.com/6c0198105a-re ... -p2902464/ price around £500. I hope they still have them...
You can get blueprint ( I have it on my 1.6 TDI and it excellent for the price) If you want even more bulletproof Valeo conversion kit, guys running them with firad injectors and big turbo no issues.
That drive axle looks same as 1.6 TDI. - you could get it used for cheap and cv joints arent expensive.
If someone has etka to confirm, or do measure the lenght...
Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
the driveshaft is upgraded from hollow to solid and that's all i know and may be duff info.
I'm sick of looking at bits now. once my box is off i think i'll just buy this and have done with it and possibly sell the extra used parts.
the next problem is that idle can be rough with the solid flywheel. one solution to the rough idle (somethig to do with how the injectors fire causing harmonic interference) is to increase the idle speed. i watched a video from darkside developments on yt and they increase the idle and do something else but theyre in barnsley which is a pita to get to for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIYio490Rh8
they are driveable without any tuning so i'll cross that bridge when i come to it. i think someone payed vw 60 to have it tuned after fitting the parts themself.
Someone mentioned a bell housing mod which imo can't be more than die grinding if it doesn't come as a part with the kit.
Next week i take my gearbox off...

Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
Sorry to bring up an old subject but just had my Dmf changed for the solid conversion as it failed as usual and now the gear 'chatter' is quite bad when the clutch is out which is like older cars iv had solid flywheels put in but has anyone else had this? Iv booked into VW to get this software update everyone speaks of but does this fix this as im a bit concerned Many thanks guys

Re: 2015 1.4 tdi dual mass failure
yes the software update should indeed fix the clutch clatter on idle
